Ed Selley - Keeping it in the family
Hello,
I'd just like to take the oppurtinity to take a monent to gently but publicly rib Ed Selley for his recent comments in "The Insider" section of Julys Hi-Fi Choice Magazine..
Firstly I'd just like to point out that in the short time that my interest in Hi-fi has peaked, from the press and the internet that it is obvious that Ed is a trusted and respected industry figure, but......
Extracts from "The Insider":
"Job Title: Product and technical consultant,
Company: Cambridge Audio, Mordaunt Short and Opus"
(rest of Interview)
"Who do you think is the leading hi-fi designer right now?" ...
"..Graeme Foy and his accoustics team at Mordaunt Short"...
It begs the question, was Graeme and his accoutics team leaning over you with a variety of blunt instruments when you wrote that one?? You guys basically work for the same company, but you still have to smile at such un-impeded loyalty!
Now Ed, whom do you really think is the leading hi-fi desinger at the moment? Come round and listen to my first-generation 906's and we'll see how long your current opinion lasts..!
Normally I would't bother with petty abuse but since you put those words into writing in a magazine that I actually paid money for, I feel it is my duty to point this out to the rest of forum!
All the best

What else was he expected to say?
I can't fault him
But hardly neutral.
Perhaps, "Well apart fom XXXXXXXX who works at my company, YYYYYYYY is the best ,IMO" would have been better.
I'm sure he'll take that on board
I've heard the latest 906 (via MHuk05) and thought they were very good

Biased opinions, loyalty to your own gear, nepotistic favour ? Within HiFi industry and Forums ?
I must say I'm shocked

So are speakers "made" by designers or engineers?

KB- just my little joke for you
My question was serious though. I hope speakers are "made" (for want of a better word; specd?) by engineers rather than designers?

KendalBeefcake....I assume that last remark is also made in the spirit of good humour, since the only things that will lead you to being "booted" from the forums are obvious rule infractions, which everyone is aware of.....simply poking fun in a good natured manner(assuming this thread stays that way) will obviously not do so.
