The thing about this is the fact that 90% of my tv boxsets are in PAL, its not so major with the movies as most are r1. I think at the moment there are 3 tv boxset set to come out, friends s1, stargate atlantis and band of brothers, but can you imagine the cost?

"Build it and they will come", guess what we did.
What aboutthe BluRay player, does anyone know if it will play region 1 and 2 standard discs. Im sure theirs a thread on this somewere, but this site is so big, sometimes you just get lost.....
What Im hoping for is a Pioneer player that does BR,is multi region and upscales as well, hope this is not asking to much.

Im not worried about regioncrack for the Toshiba, it will come soon any day.
But what will that help if we can't play our old PAL discs?

Its always been the same for US released hardware.. it was the same with DVD.
Hence for Hardware its normally better to get the UK version as it handles both out of the box.
You may be able to chip it later (or get a changed firmware/os) to have pal playback as underneath its a pc so I presume (though could be wrong) that it could be hacked ?
Matt let me get this right,so what your saying...I think, is that around December this year Pioneer and other major brands will be bringing out machines which will play PAL be region free play my old region 1-2 discs and upscale the standard DVDs as well.
We might be last in line, but we might get something good...we hope.
Im off to the states for 3 weeks NY NY, and I dont want to be buying HD when BR is gonna be the format to go for.
Forgot to add, it might be a case of having two DVD players in the short term, one for Br and 1 for standard PAL discs. In which case can anyone advise on a player that beats the Pioneer 565a, which is a cracking machine.

This is the norm for USA players. USA TV`s cannot handle PAL so their is no need for USA players to support PAL.
However i`m pretty confident that the UK machines will handle both PAL and NTSC, alothough wether they will play R1 discs or be hacked/chipped is another matter.

Not everyone got a spare DVD player...

Nope for the Uk release I expect a player which can handle US/UK HD-DVD's but I think for DVD it will be Region 2 only unless its hacked.
