You might want to wonder over to AVSFORUM.COM and look under the HDTV forum - HD-DVD players. There's a larger selection of feedback from users who may have similar kit to you. I've read numerous threads and think the display device appears to be a limiting factor in how much of an improvemnt in PQ you see with HD DVD. I have the A1 and think there is a marked difference in PQ in my setup.

You can't play your R2 standard DVDs on the Toshiba so you need to take that in account.

Yep i agree depends alot to do with what your watching it on.
I too have this Pioneer, pic quality on standard DVD's is about the same when played on this Pio as its a great upscaling player.
HD on the other hand though is stunning.. which creates problems when watching regular DVD's.
As said though you wont be able to play anything other than R1 and R0 discs on a HD player.

i will be watching on a screenplay 7205 pj native res is 1280 *720 on to a 6ft diagonal fixed screen i have about 500 dvds 75% are reg 1

Humm good call i shall hunt around to see if i have one. Says in the user guide NTSC only but worth a try.
Also just watching Apollo 13 - WOW - best disc image i have seen to date...

Pretty sure someone on avsforums tried and it didn't work. Only NTSC.

I have tried PAL R0 in the XA1, it just brings up a message telling you it doesnt support PAL.

The scene almost at the end with the helicopters at splashdown location is really good.
