£1200 to spend for the bedroom tv - dillema between the Sony KDFE50A12 or 42" plasma
I need some serious help from you experts in tv's..
ive seen this sony tv in action and i think its superb, but people have always told me to stay away from rear projected tv's. if you had the money to spend on the bedroom tv would you get a plasma or the 50" big boy.
size is not a problem as my room is quite big but i have a xbox360 and the ps3 is coming soon so preferably want it to be hd ready.
please help.
thanks

mmmm... well if i was to choose then for the sake of looking sexy then i would have to choose a wall mount plasma setup
if you have a good browse at the members gallery you can see that it indeed looks sleek which im sure your lady would prefer. especially in the bedroom
ive really not checked out the prices of plasma displays but im sure a nice pioneer or panasonic should be achievable for £1200 or even LCD.

Depending on the exact setup, a RPTV may not be right for a bedroom. They all have a limitaton on viewing angle in the vertical plane, so if you are going to be watching from above or (more likely) below, it's not a good choice.
Modern direct-view LCDs and Plasmas are all much better in this respect and, as locky79 says, would probably make for a neater installation.

For £1200 I don't think you'll find a plasma with the size/pq/functions of the sony, so if its 50 inches your after then the sony is great, if your not bothered about size I'll go fo a 42 inch plasma or 37 LCD, as others have said, for a neater installation.

Go plasma.
What's your viewing distance? If it is close you might see screendoor, chicken wire etc.

well the tv will be about 4 meters away directly infront of the bed on the wall, so the size is not a problem. just want good functionality and price for the size. what plasmas do you recommend for£1200?
by the way the lady doesnt mind, she always reads her book anyway the beauty in having a cool girlfriend who thinks that spending money on things like this is ok...

Whatever you decide on - make sure it is 'HD Ready'
No point in spending £1200 now on a tv that may (or will) have to be upgraded in a couple of years time once HD is the norm.
The Sony certainly meets current criteria but watch out for some of the LCD or Plasma screens on sale just now - they are NOT ALL 'HD Ready'
Have you considered the Samsung SP50L6HDX ? It's the one I plumped for over the Sony. Very similar in size, price and looks as the Sony. Yes - it is DLP and not 3LCD like the Sony but still a belter of a tv - and oh yes - it is 'HD Ready' to boot. Also I read in another thread on this forum that the latest version comes with a built in Freeview tuner just like the Sony. If that's correct, makes it an even better buy now compared to when I got mine 6 months ago.
