setting up sky in Spain

This maybe a stuid question but here goes. My mother in law has just got a place in Spain . I was wondering if it was possible to get a cheap second hand sky digi box and dish and install it over there. Is there a freeview card available thru sky .if so how much would it cost. Will they allow it in spain. If im unable to get a card how would i go about using my sky card over there as i have the full package . I am aware the cards are locked to a particular box is there any way around this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its amazing how we take tv for granted . Two weeks of none at all is extremly hard going

Hi,

If you ask Sky, you will be told "no". As Sky is not allowed to sell it's product outside the UK.
But if you search the internet you will find lots of companys selling SKY outside the UK, but you are on your own with that one.

Why not just get a free view SAT system, you will get all the BBC's and ITV's.
You will need a free view SAT box and at least a 80 cm dish.

That is what I did in the south of Germany when I was over there.

Good Luck.

Depending how far down you are in Spain, you could end up needing a 1.4M dish or more to receive BBC and ITV.

The signal for these channels is transmitted on a narrow band and sometimes at low power which means that sometimes you won't see a picture at all.

Buy a second hand Sky Box on this forum or ebay, get a freesat card or subscribe to SKY (without the box).

Once you receive your card, call SKY to pair the card with the box, then plug everything and it should work.

Never mention to SKY that the box will be outside the UK. For the subscription, you need to use a UK address.

The dish size required for BBC varies from 90cm in the far north to 2.4m in Alicante and back down to 1.3m near Gibraltar. More info and map here:
http://www.satcure.com/2d/

Freeview is not available by satellite. It's a UK terrestrial digital system requiring an aerial.
