After-image burn-in problem with Samsung SP43L2HX

Hi,

I have had a Samsung SP43L2HX LCD Rear Pro for the last couple of years. Outstanding picture IMHO up until recently.

About 3 months ago I noticed that the screen was starting to get a discolored shape in the middle of it - kind of lozenge shaped and stretching the whole width of the screen. I duly sent it in for service and the service company said it was just dust and they cleaned it apparently.

A couple of weeks after getting it back the discoloration started to reappear - most noticeable on the SKY blue-screen.

However I also noticed that I was getting what appeared to be burn-in after leaving the set on showing the SKY Now and Next bar at the bottom when I switched to a blue screen channel I could clearly see and read the Now and Next details from the previous channel. This is after leaving the set on for about 10 minutes only and the effect only fades after hours or days.

I've sent it back for service but they said they can't repro the problem or see the discoloration at all and sent the set back.

I've contacted them again and they are sending someone round on Thursday to take a look in-situ but I'd like to find out if anyone else has seen this problem etc.

My understanding is that since the set is LCD Rear Pro burn-in shouldn't be a problem and even if it was it shouldn't take just 10 minutes to generate an after image which lasts for days.

So anyone else seen this on an LCD Rear Pro before?

Thanks a lot,

Matthew.

I have seen reports (mostly either theoretical, or from extreme circumstances, like pub ceilings) where the polarisers in LCD projectors get internally discoloured from heat build-up. It's possible this is happening here - maybe poor design or maybe inadequate airflow/verntilation - possibly caused by clogged filters or a poorly fan....
