Hiya folks,

downloaded the WMV HD clip of T2 from MS.com the other day and thought ooooh, thats worth buying...heh....

couple of questions tho, not sure which forum was best to post, so chose here cuz it seemed reasonably appropriate....heh

it states on the Amazon.com website that the MS.com site links to when you clicky, that its only for sale in the US (and Canada possibly)...now i'm sure it would be possible to get a copy to me, but is there some reason i wont be able to watch this on my PC here in the UK?....is it a region coding thing? (i got about 2 region switches left before it sticks on one region thanx to some silly DVD-A discs that kept switching it...lol....this was before i got my 3910 that could play them..heh)........if its region coding, then unless someone knows how to disable that on the drive that comes in a Dell Dimension 8400 i'm buggered...lol.....if its another reason it might not work, or can be made to work, could someone please explain, would appreciate it muchly :-)

cheers, knyght

The discs are coded region 1, but that's not the main issue. In order to play the WMV-HD version, you need to download a license, which is only available to US residents (not sure about Canada). Some people have had success using proxys, but a number of proxys have been blocked and no longer work.

There have been a few threads on this in the past, as it does crop up from time to time.

This might help..

Seems like too much hard work to me, I'll wait for the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

I've heard that it's not regional coding in the conventional sense which would give you problems, this is a WMV-HD file, not a DVD. It requires that the licence is periodically renewed, via internet. As this material is only licensed for use in North America, you would maybe need to log on via an American based proxy or you may be refused a licence (outragous, isn't it?).
Rumours abound that this copy-protected film has been cracked and posted on the net, so much for next-gen. copywrite protection! Moderators, please not that I'm not saying I condone the illegal distribution of such material, merely that Hollwood and MS aren't all they're cracked up to be.

roll on BR/HD-DVD then.....lol

ok, i know in a way its not exactly a lot to go thru in the long run, but the whole idea of it may or may not work after you've purchased it....bleah......

oh, i've no doubt it has been cracked and posted...lol, there is very little that hasnt.....but i am a big supporter of paying for things, even if we do get ripped off by the people between the Artist and yourself........i only ever download the odd MP3 if its to get an idea of other music by a person, then i go out and buy the CD because i got a good system and no way would i sit and listen to mp3's for enjoyment.....*shudders*....heh......my biggest annoyance is people who pirate games...i just dont see the point, most games will give you anything from 40 hours to a couple hundred hours enjoyment for around £30 on a PC or £40 on current top range consoles......where else do you get that level of enjoyment for the money???.....yes it would be nice if they were cheaper, but they arnt going to be until online content delivery becomes more prominent and is handled by the team that makes the game, not a publishing house......but that wont happen if they cant sell any copies because people are pirating them!.....etc...lol

sorry, rant over, anyhow, thanx again folks for the replies, much appreciated even tho i'm left with a minor bit of disappointment...lol
