Hi, the DVD's I play on my widescreen 16:9 laptop still get black borders on the top and the bottom and since I'm projecting via my Sanyo PLV Z4 onto the wall I was hoping I could remove them.

Are the black borders still there because the DVD's are filmed in something wider than 16:9? And is there someway to expand the screen with any player to remove the borders?

Most pjs have some form of image size manipulation where you can zoom the image to remove the black bars. This will distort the image to some extent ( stretch or crop). The ratio that fills a 16.9 screen perfectly is 1.78:1, then 1.85:1 then you get into the really wide ratios like 2.35:1 which will have black bars top and bottom.
I actually prefer 2.35:1 on my projector and find 1.78:1 too 'square' now. A good projector shouldn't make the black bars too obvious.
