Hi. Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Sonos (http://www.sonos.com/products/?tref=ghome) system? I just want a single room audio solution with an LCD remote that can display the music library. I only intend to listen to music stored on my main PC which is wired to my lounge sound system.
I notice that the Sound Blaster Wireless Music (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00065GZM6/qid%3D1145650372/026-0974123-7982004) system is discontinued which I think would have been ideal at around £150.
I have been using RemoteAmp with my pocket PC but Bluetooth bugs are doing my head in.
Any comments welcomed

Have a look at Slim Devices Squeezebox. It supports lossless formats such as flac, and can be expanded from your one room set up. Uses wired or wireless and has a well supported user forum which the makers contribute to.
I would definitely recommend it (I have 3).

The SONOS gear looks VERY sweet. Just moved into a new house and the wife wont let me cut into any of the walls. With 60gig of mp3's on a computer in the office, the SONOS kit looks like the best way to pipe it round the house.
Last months what Hi-fi had three systems in and the SONOS came out on top.
Im going to a demonstration next week

Thanks guys
I agree the Squeezebox is a good bit of kit but I was hoping I could find something with a display on the remote like the Sound Blaster Wireless Music

The only other one I know of with a display on the remote is the Streamium WACS700, but that doesn't need a PC etc.
You can use the Squeezebox with a wireless PDA as a remote too (which is what I do)

I think I need to trade-in my PPC for one with wi-fi as I already have a wireless network and as I said, my PC is wired to the down stairs stereo. I should then be able to carry on as before with RemoteAmp or similar. So do we have any recommendations for PPC software to control Media Player?
Thanks Billbo
This is my first post to this very good Forum, Many thanks for the very useful info that I have learned.
Having searched and read much info on digital music servers, both here and at other places it soon became apparant that the sqeezebox was a quality product. Now having owend one for TWO Days I am must tell you all that I am blown away by it! using it via a Roksan Caspian amp and a pair of Monitor Audio Radius 270`s & 360 sub it is just astonishing, the sound quality & interface is better than I expected.I very nearly purchased the sonus kit,but do I realy need the best looking remote, it does not make the music sound any better. Many thanks for everyone`s input.

I use a free app called VisualMR on my PPC to control my Roku soundbridge via wi-fi. Worksa treat

Andrew are you using TelCanto on your ppc? If so how do you rate it? Also can it be used with bluetooth?

I have a wireless card in my PDA, so just use a web browser with an altered handheld skin, its a bit slower, but its free!
I have heard good things about telcanto, might try it some time
This is also another alternative:

I'm not sure about the bluetooth option, I imagine it would need a bluetooth receiver on the PC somehow linked into slimserver.
