There seems to be a limitation in current Toshiba HD-DVD players in that they can only decode NTSC discs.
If this will be the fact with the Euro released HD-DVD players only playing PAL discs we are into major trouble as almost every iSD-DVD player i know of today can handle both PAL/NTSC.
Anyone know anything more about this?
Will Euro player only be PAL when it's released?

PAL and NTSC are standard definition interlaced video broadcast and storage standards.
They have nothing to do with high definition video. You only have to worry about 50 and 60Hz compatibility.
Anyone know about that?

Have you considered simply not throwing your current DVD player away when you buy a Hi Def model?

There is no PAL / NTSC thing in the HD world. This is SD interlaced. Re DVD players, in the UK most are PAL / NTSC capable but this is far from the norm. Often the identical model in the US is NTSC only. They have no need of PAL. Their TVs are even worse. You need to worry aout 50 or 60hz capabilities.
