The Streets - Irony of it all
With the current climate of should we or shouldn't we decriminilise cannabis this is really going to hit the spot.
The Track is basically 2 guys talking over a drum n bass loop - ones a lager boy and the other smokes blow.
Very very good

and the other smokes blow
I presume you mean that he blows smoke.

Blowing smoke happens when smoking blow, so you're both right!
RDB :)
i very much doubt this will be big.....probs only appeals to 16-year olds.....

What I found to be original was the comparison the track made between the acceptance and glorification of alcohol abuse in society and the general unacceptance of cannabis.
If this post starts a debate on the above it may be better to move it to general chat.

Hardly original as it is the subject of radio phone in programmes at least once a month

But as this is the first time I have heard this put to music I found the track ORIGINAL
What if your partial to a bit of the old herb, and you like a drink to? as most who do, like both. Beer is far more likely to get a pot (pardon the pun) smashed in your face by some 'hard man' drunk, then a joint ever will. It's just double standards

Its a track that will certainly appeal more to 'pot-heads' than 'normal people'...
but the irony of that sterotype is exactly what the track is all about.
It's no masterpiece by any means, but it IS original and it should be heard..
Like the rest of the album basically...
If you can listen to 'Original Pirate material' and still say it's cr@p you should seriously be thinking about selling your HiFi and buying a caravan :smoke:
It's also a proper test of your Kit, if you've got a Servo15 you'll enjoy.. :)
Just the Dude's humble opinions of course...

is,nt it about time we moved away from the idea that those that (smoke)are 16 year old delinqeunts.pot heads or stoners as most would like to label them.common is making a relevant point here, just because you dont smoke weed doesnt make his opinion any less relevant.get your heads out of your ar**s.i enjoy both a good smoke and a nice chilled bottle of beer and a good album adds to that fact.bands have been singing about drugs for years as you all well know.so yeah its maybe not original as such, but not many would deal with this subject in such a straight forward manner as has mike skinner.it seems that you may have opened a can of worms here common, but good on ya.this is something that needs to be talked about more often.i work in the health service and am well aware of the problems of achohol abuse, but never see someone on a saturday nite in a and e who has been beaten by a (stoner) or has smoked too much.Common, roll another fat one mate and pass it on to me.

I think the can of worms was opened a looooooooong time ago....
.....so confusing when someone opens an old thread.
The subject of the song may or maynot be original and I can't say that I am particularly endeared to some of the the bands lyrical prowess but I would go as far as say that the boys have a very original musical style. You certainly won't mistake them for anyone else. I believe their music is indicative of current, popular culture and here lies their appeal.
Anyway, 'don't mug ya'self' and for christs-sake 'don't touch me!'. 'Eeeeeasy nowww' gentlemen, I don't want any 'bovver'.

Lo there,
Isn't this track on the streets 1st album? I'm sure it is, and yes it's an interesting track. There's some good bits in it like the pot head saying "what harm am I doing sitting in my house having a joint, but you go out and drink 20 pints and hit someone" type of thing.
It does make you think a bit, but it's not something that hasn't been done in music before.

I think virtually everyone has discussed this before. I smoked weed at uni as well as drink a fair bit of beer. Now I still drink beer but don't smoke weed at all as you simply can't function properly in everyday life if you are stoned. Yes alcohol can make you agressive if you have too much but it can also be great fun and a superb sociable drug if not abused. The track is ok but IMO says nothing new or original as we often used to go on about how drugs like Weed & Ecstacy don't make you agressive where as alchohol can at Uni.

I dont think the point was that the track had come up with a new insight into the merits of various drugs, just that it was a novel approach to putting the subject to music..
I'm sure we all discussed this too.. and i didn't even go to university.. ;)

Lets not forget that many a lager lout also likes a smoke. So they might pot someone on a saturday night then have a smoke to calm themselves after:laugh:

You're **** and my god don't you know it.
The streets are awful, and I can't stand them. Funny lyrics can only go so far without a decent voice or tune... wait, what am I saying, they're not even funny.
