Hi there.

I've been meaning to start my own thread for a few weeks now but haven't for a couple of reasons. I have been really busy recently and have no time to sort through my photos. For example I recently visited New York and took close to 2000 shots - it takes a while to sort through, edit and PP that number of shots! Also there has been some fantastic stuff posted on other people's threads so I was a little hesitant about sharing my shots which generally aren't in the same league.

Anyway, these have all been taken using my Canon 350D with either the 18-55 USM kit lens or my f1.8 50mm prime lens. I don't have exif data for some of the shots as they have been passed through Noiseware and that seems to strip the exif away. The originals are on my home PC and I will add the exifs later when I am at home.

This shot is two combined - I took the same photo three times with a wide exposure bracket. I then took the correctly exposed sky and the correctly exposed buildings and combined them.

Panorama shot of 5 images joined together by Photoshop Elements 3. Shots were taken from the Staten Island Ferry going towards Manhattan:

Some shots all taken with the f1.8 50mm of a demonstration against the Chineese Comunist Party. I like the contrast between the colourful costumes and the Macy's sign in the background:

That 50mm f1.8 is a little beauty don't you think
Great job done with the photo stich panorama, I'll have to try that myself one day. Love the colour and composition of the photos and I have to say that's a superb shot shot of your little boy :smashin:

Thanks mate. Yes, I do love the 50mm f1.8 but only outdoors. It is a bit limited indoors as the 50mm (or 80mm effectively) is a bit too much of a zoom so can be difficult to fit everything in the frame. But it is cracking all the same.

Thanks - PSE3 did an OK job with the stich but it took me ages to correct all the colour differences and imperfections. Plus it looks so much better at full rez but that is 6000-odd x 1700 so would take some time to load!!

I find it a great lens indoors especially at a lower light, though I do agree a little about it being a bit long for framing indoors. As I totally failed to get out and get an action shot for the competition I will be entering an indoor shot taken over the weekend  (It will be entitled Drink, Drugs and a 50mm lens in action  )

Just as an example, this (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2697060&postcount=8) was taken indoors with the 50mm lens.

A good example Steve - a nice shot. But if you have a small room it is a bit difficult to take anything that isn't more than a head and shoulders shot.

Ah, that's who he reminded me of - although the fella in the photo isn't that quirky :rotfl: :p ;)

Thanks though - I was pretty pleased with it. Taking candids with a 50mm lens is very hard - most of the time people spot me before I get the chance. I almost got a great shot of a security guard at Grand Central Station but he gave me an evil stare so I stopped. He was about 6'4 and that was width rather than height!

Here are some more from NYC....I really want to go back, I loved it - so many photo ops!

Another panorama this time of Manhattan by night as viewed from Liberty Park in NJ.

http://www.pbase.com/electrolyte/image/58851808.jpg
The view from Liberty Park was stunning and all that was missing was the Friends logo above the buildings! PSE3 hasn't done a great job with the Panorama with some coloured banding in evidence but this is because I took the shots just after dusk and the light was changing in between each shot...anyone got any ideas how I could correct it??

1/10s f/2.5 at 50.0mm iso100 with Flash (taken with 50mm f1.8)

This is an example of the 50mm being too close - I couldn't get the whole pizza into the shot (but it was a large pizza though!)

More later!

Know the feeling. In fact I have had my album pulled as I realised most of it was rubbish - hence my DSLR 5 weeks in thread. Will start another some time.

Finally, the new photos are superb too. The helicopter shot and looking down pics are top drawer. Evidently, a location such as this is were a DLSR comes into its own....

Very nice ( sounds lame) . Just goes to show what a keen photographic eye armed with decent kit can do.
The 350Ds kit lens is obviously not as mediocre as we say it is in your hands!
All the New York Pics were fantastc, and this is without shots of Central Park, and a few other famous " Big apple" landmarks.

The NYPD pic made me smile. Im not entirely sure any of our boys in blue would be so obliging
The Helicopter shot incredible :smashin: ....spending a bit of chilhood in that part of the world had made me unable to see anything interesting there: you images have debunked that.

Your pic of the football match looks a wee bit too colourful on my monitor ;almost like a screenshot from an HD shot in xbox360: is it "Photoshoped" or maybe my monitor need recalibrating
Great effort :keep them coming: I often refer these forums and albums like this to fledging photgraphers who are feeling "bored" for a bit of inspiration

Just updating my thread with my latest shots...I took them at The Deep - a huge aquarium in Hull which is an amazing place. Well worth a visit IMO.

They were all taken using my Canon 350D with either my 18-55 USM kit lens or 50 f1.8. They were very difficult to take because I couldn't use flash so had to use relatively long shutter speeds and high iso to compensate. Plus the little blighters kept moving too quickly!

No they weren't, probably only about 30mph. But the shutter speed was 1/4 sec which is quite a long time for the shutter to be open. Hence the blurring of the two cars...

Simon,

I don't often check out the albums here but glad I browsed through yours as there are some really great images here. You should be pleased.

I really like the Deep ones and the NY ones. I think I need to get a 50mm 1.8 too :) .

I last went to NY 10 years ago so all my images are on slides and film - should get around to scanning them in (got some great pics of the twin towers etc). Your NYPD shot reminded me of the time I was outside Macy's and pointed my camera at the patrol car parked across the road. The guys inside turned on the flashing lights while I took the photo and then turned them off again. Amazing. I also like the blurred cars pic - really sums up NY hols as everyone takes this type of pic out of their hotel room. I can hear and smell NY now - I must go back  I hear some people don't like NY - can't understand that myself.

Keep up the good work.

I'd recommend the 50 1.8 and it's only £68 from the seller on ebay I got mine from... Link here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130031339347&ssPageName=ADME:B:FSEL:US:1).

Thanks. Small world as I just got an L lens and 1.4 extender from Kerso (outside of eBay so a bit cheaper). Will ask him about his best price on a 50mm.

By accident I moved the camera in the middle of the shot and got no. 2, which I think is more interesting...

This got me thinking and I returned a couple of days later to take these:

I also took this one; I don't think it fits in with the more abstract ones above but I quite like it.
