Exclamation iPod too loud?

Then you'll soon be able to choose your own maximum volume level ... as long as you're a Nano or 5G pod owner: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4858242.stm

This is a much needed update. I purchased a nano last week and I switched it on in bed night before last to listen too 5mins of calming music, but I must have inadvertlenty pushed volume up to max because I got full max U2 like a knife to the brain! it hurt! my ears are still not right 2 days later and i have been having sharp pains in my head.

The iPod is too loud with very efficient earphones. Most basic earphones are that... very efficient. For those of us however who use quality headphones (usually necessarily less efficient) it's a huge boon that the iPod kicks out as much power as it does. The Sony's are totally pathetic in this respect, however ambulance-chasing-lawyer-friendly they might be.

I'd say the option to have a volume max limit is a sensible option to have, as long as they don't actually cut maximum possible amp power in future versions.
