Hi, ive had it with sky with there stupidly high prices n the fact that all I watch is kerrang and sport and sports is massivly overprices for what im getting so im thinking of going to a hotbird style satillite system because they have more football. However, I have a fair few quarms about what to do.

1. id like to have a receiver capable of HDTV and the one I was looking at is the HUMAX as seen here:

Is this a good choice?

2. Next is with this box would I need a CAM to use the ARTworld box and if so which one is a good option?

3. What channels will I get with just the satillite pointed at hotbird. IE Freeview channels.

4. What other equipment will I need, so far I know of satillite, Receiver, connecting cables and card and cam if needed, am I missing anything?

5. Anyone know any other good cards for Premiership football

6. Is it a wise idea to get a motorised satillite so I can get other satillites and use more cards or is it not worth it.

7. BBC is showing the World Cup in HD. With this box can I watch BBC in hi-def when it is broadcasting the world cup in HD.

8. I noticed the 2 satillitesI was looking at are 13E for hotbird and 16E for Eutelsat, If I was to get a motorised unit, how would I tell the satillite to point to what I want.

Erm, the satellite itself doesn't repoint (reposition itself)
A motorised dish will repoint itself.
I think you mean how would you tell the satellite receiver to look at the correct dish (if you use 2 dishes) or correct LNB (if you use 2 LNBs on a "magic dual position arm" , a further alternative being a DiSEqC controlled motorised dish.
For a motorised unit the box will control this via its DiSEqC commands.

no, i mean if I have one satillite on a motorised arm, how to tell the one satillite to point at either hot bird or eutelsat as in 13e and 16e, like if I was watching something on that was broadcast on the hot bird satillite and I wanted to receive something braodcast from the eutelsat sattilite, how would I tell the the satillie to move so it is receiving from eutelsat?

The receiver's software takes care of that using either DiSEqC or USALS "Go to" signals.
You do not have a "satillite " on a motorised arm - or even a satellite.
That would be a 22000 mile long arm
You can Google to find more information - but using "satillite" as a search term won't get you very far.

To answer some of your questions:
The most common Football cards are ART and DigitAlb, in terms of cams a via access 2 camis required for ART and a Conax cam for DigitAlb.
Those two services are broadcast on 16E (digitalb) & 13E (art).

You can use a dish with a multi_lnb bracket to get both sats from one dish at the same time- much easier then setting up a motor.

thanx a lot trebor. How does that work then, do you have the dish pointing down the middle of the two satillites then one lnb pointing at each.

What if I want to receive astra, eutelsat and hotbird at the same time can I point it down the middle of the three then point one lnb at each of the three.

Any idea of channel changing time when changing from one channel on one satellite to one channel on a nother satellite?

From 13E to 16E is about 5 seconds with a motorised setup. With dual LNBs there'll be no lag.

If you don't mind watching football with non-English commentary there are other ways to do it without a card.

Receiver-wise you can't do better than the Dreambox, available from Goldwafers As long as your relatively PC savvy, once you get to grips with this box, you'll be laughing. No HD on a Dreambox yet, but with the right images you won't need any Cams (or indeed cards ) with most official cards working straight away.

Think the "when will it be released?" DB8000 is supposed to be HD compatible. Not sure about the new 7025.

Tommy, considering what you've written go for a mainstream receiver and a subscription card as needed. Will BBC HD be free (FTA)?

the reason ive picked the HUMAX is because its the only decent HD box I can find, just shame theres no HDD. as for bbc will it be free. My guess is yes. The world cup is going to be HDTV but as it stands the only people who can receive it as far as I can see is Sky HD owners (or soon to be should I say) and people who can receive the FTA channels from astra which include BBC.

Also, how can I get sky sports news on this set up, would I just point the dish at the Astra satellite as this channel is on freeview boxes but now yellow house from what ive read. how can I make it avalible to get this channel?
