back to front? - logic and thoughts for connecting power amps to a processor/receiver

Hi all
a query about a thought I had last night....when I come to use seperate power amps to run my fornt and centre channels then is it worth wiring the reciever up back to front?
logic goes: some people suggest that at the lower end of the receiver market the amps used for the rear channels are less powerful/inferior to those used for the centre/fronts.
if that is the case and using the onboard D-A conversion at the DVD player, then does it make sense to deliberately swap over the inputs and the pre-outs so that the rear channels from the DVD player are dealt with by the front amplifiers in the receiver and these (otherwise redundant) circuits are used to advantage....
any thoughts about the logic and practicalities (I only have a power amp for centre at the mo so no chance to experiment!)?
sorry in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere
