Love the snow shot, the second and third shots of the birds, all the night shots (great colour) and the stained glass!
Ok can I be the first with some constructive critique? Cause otherwise the album wont stimulate any debate and we will just be looking at each others shots...
Cant help thinking Animal kingdom (tree at top is kind of cut off), inside kremlin, and the first shot above are missing a focal point...or too much going on? I feel Im drifting over and back looking for something to fix on...
Would have loved to have that shot of the trevi fountain on my camera though. Well done!
What I really like is the way you have set the camera in the middle of the shots - eg the stained glass doesnt have a bit of a brick wall peeking in at either side.

Thanks for your comments sold5.
Regarding the pictures you mentioned. The Animal Kingdom shot was taken from one of the trucks you can see the other side of the pond so I was limited in what I could photograph. I still like it though.
I'm not too fussed on the Kremlin shot myself so I've removed it.
The first shot was taken in landscape mode - enough said
Please bear in mind they were all taken with a point-and-shoot compact :god: ;)
the stained glass doesnt have a bit of a brick wall peeking in at either side
I'll let you into a bit of a secret ;) . It was a crop of this....
Great choice to crop to that size. Well done on getting a bright shot in such a dark building - I know it was a window but it looks like one that might have turned out dull even still. I think cropping shots is one of the best ways to put your stamp on a picture. Love your night shot of the call-and-see-them by the way.
Regarding point and shoot cameras, Ive got some great shots with my girlfriends Pentax tiny camera, of course good kit is great for blurry backgrounds, sharp portraits of animals and people, street shots of passing faces etc but the size of the pentax means you are more likely to catch something you'd miss otherwise.
Any more shots to post?

Finally had a chance to use my 350D seriously yesterday. Took our nephew and neice on a day out to the Cantref Adventure farm near Brecon. Not a patch on Folly Farm (near Tenby) but the kids enjoyed. Stopped off by the Brecon and Radnor canal on the way home.
What I found out was the fact that I've got a hell of a lot to learn. I took over a hundred pics but only about 25% were what I'd consider to be keepers.
Here are a few that I'd like to include in my album. All were shot handheld with either the kit lens or the 50mm f1.8. Some have been cropped and had the contrast enhanced slightly and all have had unsharp mask applied after resizing. No other PP was used. Exif data is embedded in the images.

Thanks for the comments Simon.
I agree with you about the 350D pics looking a bit dull compared to the Sony shots. A combination of reasons really. Poor light - the grey sky didn't help with the outdoor shots and the animal pics were taken in a barn without flash, poor choice of settings - well I'm still learning  and, the biggest reason of all, very little post processing was done to the 350D photos. The Sony pics have all had quite a bit of processing done to them. Saturation was increased, contrast and brightness levels adjusted, more sharpness was added etc.
Straight out of the camera the Sony shots aren't a patch on the 350D. Take the Lamb picture for example. The Sony would never have been able to produce such a sharp image. Forget about depth of field for a second, compare it with the bird picture from my florida pics. You can actually see how much processing was done to that. Although I have applied unsharp mask to the 350D shots, it was nowhere near as much as I had to apply to the Sony ones. A few tweaks here and there would have the 350D pics looking much more vibrant but I'm reluctant to go down that route at the moment as I want to look back and see how my photographing skills improve over time and be able to compare shots without processing getting in the way.
All in all, I am extremely pleased with the quality of the pictures I'm getting with the 350D. I still like my Sony (sorry my wife's sony ;)) and it does produce some cracking shots for a compact but give me the 350D any day :)

Great pics again and a decent summary in the difference between DSLR and a PS andhow your style changes to reflect the camera, as I said in my thread over the weekend.

Thanks Pete. You're right about the change in style regarding the different approach to DSLR and point & shoot. Not just in the way you take pictures but what you do to them later.
Very nice Pictures from both Cameras ( Do you infact ever stay at home??:rotfl: )
The Canon pics look like "the Holiday in Wales" in between all the other holidays!
Seriously,Prior to getting the 350D I had/ (still have) a Fuji 602 and went on a night out from work with it about 2 1/2 years ago.
On that occasion one of my Work colleagues husband brought his Canon 300D which till then seemed to me like an exotic but needlesly expensive camera.
When shots from both were compared later his were dull but solid "looking" noisefree and mine colorful and bright but only after a lot of PP in Photoshop. I knew right away that the Canon Pics would look that much better with a little work as he had not done any PP at all .
It was then I started feeling that The 602 had done its time and needed replacing as my primary camera.
Many people coming to DSLR from prosumers are initially underwhelmed and wonder what the fuss is all about not knowing those "dull" pictures actually have much more potential for looking great
In addition to change in shooting style with the DSLR, You should see your Post processing skills as an extension of your photographic skills rather than a complimentary skill you use to "tart" pictures up .
Certainly it can also be that if you do montages and artistic enhancements:
I use my pics in videos with videotape footage and also to make slideshow DVDs with various programs and with just a little work they go from being "lacklustre" to coming "alive" on TV especially Hi Def
I feel 99% of pics can use a little help even though obviously really bad pics cannot be rescued;)
Well done , Keep it up:thumbsup:

Don't get me wrong, I'll still be using photoshop to enhance my pictures. What impresses me about the images from the 350D is how much better they replicate what I see at the time of taking the shot regarding saturation and contrast, a vast improvement over my Sony. Obviously, there will be times that I'd want a little more to show in my photos as the conditions when taking them were far from ideal or just simply to give them more oomph. I've spent some of this evening enhancing some of my Monday shots and I've been extremely happy with the results so far. I might even revisit a couple of the pictures I posted and see if I can put a bit more life into them. The fact that they are so much better out of the camera compared to the Sony is very satisfying indeed :)

Thanks Simon. On the Bruges shot, I set the camera to AV mode and selected the widest aperture which was f/4 on the 17-85 lens at 17mm. I chose ISO 200 for this particular shot which gave me an exposure time of 1.3 seconds.
I also like the way the colours turned out in this pic. Apart from straightening the picture slightly and applying a bit of unsharp mask after resizing, I didn't feel the need to adjust anything else in photoshop.

Thanks Bill. All I did on both shots was to set the camera to AV mode, ISO 200 and it's widest aperture which was f/4 on the lens I was using. I used a tripod for both pictures. In regard to processing I had to straighten the first pic slightly but, apart from resizing and applying a bit of unsharp mask, no other PP was done. It had been raining for most of the day and had just started to clear up. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

Cornwall is a beautiful area of the country but it is very busy at this time of the year. It took me just as long to drive down as it did for me to drive to Belgium because of the traffic! Just got back from a weeks holiday on the Greek Island Of Kos. We stayed in Kefalos which was a nice, quiet resort with a good selection of Tavernas.
We visited a couple of places while there. We went to a little village called Zia which was nestled in the mountains of Kos. We also took a boat across to the Island of Nisyros. I'd highly recommend this boat trip to anyone who visits Kos. There's a volcano on the Island that is still active but is currently sleeping. Apparently, some scenes from the Bond film Moonraker were filmed there. We also spent some time in Nisyros's main town of Mandraki.
Here are some pics that I took with my 350D and canon 10-22 and 17-85IS lenses.....

Cheers Senu. I didn't use a polariser as I haven't got one yet. Was seriously thinking about getting one a few weeks back but I've been putting it off. All the toning was done by adjusting the exposure and shadow levels etc. in Rawshooter apart from the first volcano picture which I shot in jpeg.
As for the lack of people, I was pretty lucky that they must have been having a siesta at the time

Thanks Jazz. I did adjust the saturation on some of them but I found that the colour increased quite a bit just by adjusting the exposure and shadow levels in Rawshooter.

Bowen, great shots again, colours on the boat pics are superb, did you use a polariser ?

I still haven't got round to getting a polarizing filter yet Bill. The pics you refer to were both shot in Raw and by adjusting the exposure and contrast levels slightly made the colours more pronounced.

Ha Ha.
I'd love to go to New York. It's one of just a few destinations that we've always wanted to do but for one reason or another, haven't.
Beautiful deep range of colours,i like em'
