Hi all,
I'm new to the .mp3 revolution and am (finally!) considering getting an mp3 player.
My question is, does the hardware I am after exist?!
I really like the idea of using an iPod type device wirelessly in my home, streaming music to an AV reciever somehow. I have seen the little clip on thing that streams thought a radio signal, but the player needs to be very close to the radio. I have heard of the iPort (airport?!) thing form Apple, but I don't have a laptop, and buget doesn't stretch to that at the moment. Is there something like bluetooth that would do it?
Is there anything you guys could suggest?
Hope you can help,
Crackles :)

The Apple Airport Express works as a wireless access point and links an iTunes PC or Mac to your stereo. A PC running iTunes (and a wireless network) can play back music to the outputs of the Express as though they were speakers - connect the express to your AV receiver and it will work - but you have no control :(

There are other devices like the Netgear MP101 (discontinued), MP111, ROKU, Slim Devices Squeezebox and Philips Streamium which will access a remote library over wired/wireless networks and allow you to pick and play the music in the same room. Prices vary from a few quid for a second hand MP101 to hundreds for some of the others + of course you need a PC and it needs to be left on when you play music.

Try searching on some of those to get a better idea.

I have just uploaded some reviews of the various devices here:

Hopefully that will give you some ideas

as recommend above a device like the Roku SOundbridge or Squuezebox would be ideal for your needs,

i have a Roku Soundbridge connected to my Itunes library, i think its brilliant , easy to use and sound qaulity is very good,

I have just bought an ipod nano and the i-trip fm transmitter... i use it to transmit music to the car radio and an av receiver... the range is about 30 metres which should be enough for any room..and it costs a lot less than a wifi streaming device... (4 GB ipod plus i-trip less than 200 squid).
