has anyone sat down and done a 'real world' comparrison of superbit disks with their 'mortalbit' brethen?
Is the quality difference particularly noticeable on regular screens (32/36) or is it more on Projection/screen systems.

IMO, 32"/36" direct view TVs are just too small to see improvements of superbit dvds.

I disagree. I can show anyone who isn't blind BIG differences between R2 Fifth Element, R1 Fifth Element and Superbit Fifth Element. This is on a standards TV. The difference are more obvious on projectors.
Now I must order that R2 German version of Fifth Element for the collection:p

Can anyone play these superbit DVD's or you require a special DVD player to take advantage of it.
I have a Marantz DV4200.

They are just standard DVD compatible with every DVD player but have been optimised for quality.
The differences are notable even on a 28 inch widescreen tv.
Ive got both the R2 and R1 superbit of the 5th Element and the latter is noticeably sharper, clearer and of course better sound as well!!

my point was that superbit dvds aren't worth the money if you have standard version of those movies & direct view TVs.
I lived through crappy European-interlaced-only Toshiba 32ZP18P(I still have it) & SONY KP44PS2 (44" RPTV), last year. And of course I could see the the difference but that difference was so subtle.
But on my projector, superbit dvds worths every penny as well as 1080i hi-def materials.
Funny thing is that some people here, hear no difference in PAL dvds going 4% faster in sound, but they see improvement in superbit dvds with such small displays.

I was going to buy the reg 1 superbit from Play but they say it is RCE.
can anyone tell me if it is or not and if they are going to release a reg 2 version.

The biggest difference in these things I've seen is with Desperado. HUGE......It was on an 8ft screen fed to an 808......

I'll be there, might even have the projector up and running by then;) Move on the 10 next month. Whole barn to play in, all going well
Fifth Element, one of my favourite films.:) Watch it for hours on end

do you like it because of the visuals, the sound or because it is a good movie???
I only saw it the once at the cinema and really liked the cinematography but thought the screenplay/script was a bit lacking.

I watched it first on a rented VHS tape and didn't like it at all, probably due to the lousy quality. I gave it a 2nd chance and bought the VCD but the quality wasn't much better either due to the origin (ahem ...) though I started to like the movie.
Well, and then there came DVD - this is a movie which needs to be seen and heard on that format: great pic, better sound and score and the movie is IMHO great, too. Especially I am amazed with the score, there is always some subtle sound or music in most of the channels, creating that ambience.
One of my fav movies / DVD ... now I just wish there would be a similar release of "Highlander".

Sorry for the missunderstanding, I was just commenting on "The 5th Element" in general, haven't seen the Superbit version (do own the normal R1 though).
I have seen the region 4 version of the film......the superbit is way better. Cant compare with the region 1. But 5th element superbit is far and away my best quality disc.
actualy, it does cause my dvd player problems at the layer change.......apart from that its great

So now we are gonna get superbit deluxe, top quality as we would expect from a superbit with all the features on another disc, I ask why didn't they just do that in the first place?
