Hi,

Was intending buying this excellent movie and double-DVD set, but just noticed the ultra-cheap, nasty-looking packaging! As such, my wallet never left my pocket! Why?

Sorry, but if Universal think they can con me into paying hard-earned for a cheapy clear plastic sleeve, and cardboard, then they can forget it!

Anyone know what the R1 edition is like, both packaging and actual disc-content?

Hi Folks,

Thanks for your help. Looks like I might have to buy a copy, but will need to see an R2 vs R1 comparison, before that.

Any one seen such a comparison yet?! And does the R2 edition have the DTS soundtrack on it, and the same amount of extras?

Have you not checked out the Total DVD site review?

I just checked out this review and, Pooch, I would not bother! Once you manage to find it, it mentions nothing about the packaging, which, you specifically asked about. (On an aside, I do not visit this site very often due to poor layout.)
Personally, I am more interested in if the R2 version is cut or not as I seem to remember the old video version I have is trimmed a little on the house massacre dream sequence bit.
I care not about the packaging as I do not use it anyway, but have to admit that the Universal packaging is a little shoddy. The ones I saw at Woolies were in bits already and this was on day of release! Compare and contrast with the excellent, sturdy french Connection boxset.

DVD Compare says that R2 is uncut (as is R1). However, you get a DTS soundtrack with the R1 version, so I know what I'm going to be buying. It doesn't mention the packaging though (although it's gotta be better than the region 2 version).

Steve,

The R1 edition is in a standard hard=plastic Amaray case!

Such a shame that the R2 version a) doesn't have DTS, and b) is in lousy cheapo packaging!

Looks like it'll be the R1 edition for me, unless anyone can convince me to change my mind!

What do you think is wrong with the layout of Total DVD?

I bought the Region 1 when it was released and this Monday I was sent the Region 2 for review.

The Region 1 plastic case arrived without a scratch where as the Region 2 arrived smashed to bits. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions from that. ;)

I'm hoping to get a comparison review online as soon as I can so I'll let you know when it's done.
