AAARGGHH!! My Hi-Grade DMS II is DEAD
Just one day before it's first birthday, and my hi-grade DMS2 is dead
It froze with a corrupt TV screen and I shrugged my shoulders and thought it was the monthly re-boot that was usually needed. I pressed the front power button for the required few seconds and it turned of. Counted to 10 and pressed it again.......Nothing, absolutely nothing. Deep breathe, count to 10 again......press button and nothing. Press again thinking I hadn't pressed it correct the first 10 times....nothing.
Praying my UPS had gone, I took that out of the equation and still zilch. Power lead, I thought, clutching at straws. Replaced that and still silence.
What about 'Desperate housewives, we haven't watched this weeks' Mrs CTID helpfully commented.
'**** Desperate housewives' I reply, 'it's bl***y dead, rollocks'
I had a quick look around and I don't see anything obvious. I've done the obvious but I'm guessing it is a power suply blown. I will be contacting higrade on Monday, I will keep fellow DMS'ers posted.

Meansizzler, bought direct from hi-grade.
Well I tried to get hold of technical support. Once I navigated the phone menus all I got was a phone that rang and rang, no queuing system. After trying off and on for a few hours and still getting the continous ringing and no pick up, I phoned the main number and they tried. Then he came back and said there was a problem with the phone system So technical support were having a technical problem
So we will see where I get tomorrow.

Quick update. I managed to get throught to technical support yesterday and after faxing back a disclaimer due to not having the original packaging, the box was collected today.
I meant to ask what their normal turn around is, but the guy said it could be the power supply, but doubtful as it had originally froze while on live tv, or the motherboard
I was one of the first to get one of these, it has been sat on the top shelf of the av stand that comes with the samsung 50in DLP. So loads of air flow. It has been on a UPS since day one and we are a non smoking, non pet household. It hasn't been moved at all, the only time it gets touched are when I push the dvd tray in or give it a reset every now and then.
I will post when I hear anything else.

Sorry to hear of your lose, so unlucky.
I got mine around the same time as you and treat mine pretty rough..
airflow is "ok", not great,
do alot of transcoding which hammers the machine,
no UPS (though the power strip has surge protection),
and we have 3 cats.
time to check those backups
will be watching this thread with interest to see how you do.
good luck, am sure hi-grade will sort you out though.

Just to let you guys with problems know that I had the same problem with mine just before Christmas.
During initial conversations they told me also that they thought it was the PSU but in the end it turned out to be the motherboard.
They fixed it and returned it to me within a couple of weeks and it's been fine ever since

fusion7, I used a box that I had knocking about with lots of broken polystyrene wedged everywhere.
Very worrying that yours has gone as well. I hope for hi-grades sake that it isn't the same for all the early DMS's.
Anyone know what the normal turnaround is for a repair?

Well all was quite on the western 'higrade' front so I gave them a call today. Apparently the problem is with the power supply. The problem is they don't have any in stock (how many times is that old chestnut used) so it could be the end of next week before they repair it.
So not too good on the technical support from higrade. I am a bit disappointed that I had to contact them, and the 'not in stock and will take a week to get delivery' really does get my goat. I can get replacement bits for my servers next day and my company must be small fry compared to higrade, so why does it take them a week to get a power supply? But, they are easy to get through to, and you don't get a first line of defense call centre, and then messed around with before speaking to someone who knows what they are talking about. The first guy I spoke to came back with the answer.
Ho hum, I miss MCE!! bring it home!

As another early buyer I also hope that its not a generic fault but the power supply does get quite warm/hot.
On not having stock of spares that is possible as in other threads it has been said that the chassis is bought in pre-assemblied from Tatung. I assume they will have to order the spares from them.
Regards
Chris
