Before I get flamed (yet again) for highlighting why I and so many others think the Lumagen is going to give you the best processing by far. Might I suggest a search of this forum as there are quite a few "which scaler" threads about already.

Or if you can afford it the Folsom Imagepro HD will blow them all out of the water!

Luke: Looking at the specs it doesn't do film detection for HD sources.....it also doesn't look to have hdcp compliance.

I'd be pretty amazed if it blew a Lumagen HDP out of anything.

Depends on how much you want to spend James and what sources you have to a lesser extent.

You are really going to want a DVD player that either outputs interlaced HDMI or ideally is SDI modified to get the best out of a decent scaler IMHO.

For the money the current Lumagens can't be beaten...the iScans are limited in many ways...again IMHO.

If you want to spend more then the new Crystalio should be a killer product and is due very soon.

If you can wait longer then the next gen Lumagen sounds interesting...but again big bucks and not here for a while yet.

The last point is that any scaler really needs careful setting up and it's worth getting in a pro if you can.

Cheers, Lee

could not agree more, when spending serious money make sure you get an approved installer to configure, otherwise you will just get a big white elephant

It might be an idea to read the AVForums rules if your a Manufacturer, Retailer or Distributor.

Best regards

What about the new Vantage HD from Calibre UK? Apart from the fact that they too enjoy charging a premium in the UK (even though it's made here) it would appear to be a nice box...

There were a couple of threads about the Vantage HD last Autumn when it was announced, and demonstrated at CEDIA. Like nearly all the new Realta HQV and Gennum VSX -based processors, though, deliveries have been delayed for reasons that Calibre keep close to their chest.

The VantageHD and Crystalio II look like being released in the very near future, perhaps just a few weeks.

Hold on to your deposit, though, they get here when they get here.

Just my opinion, Nick

Yeah I was just conversing by email with Vantage's UK distributor. I was told early March. Personally though I find the UK pricing a little offensive vs the US (which must absorb shipping and import duties etc), even adjusting for VAT. Any reason to not simply pick one up in the US (when they're available that is...)?

Hello stevekale

The Vantage HD is not available as yet - I'm told it may be ready for release next week.

Its slightly odd in that its a UK manufactured product but not sold by the Manufacturer - they have appointed Invision UK as the UK Distributor.

More input from james kent is required before the list of possibilities escalates ever upwards in price

Best regards

Joe
