99% Ready to buy the 50"SONY...

Hey

I really want this TV. Mainly because of the size and price. It will mainly be used for Xbox 360 and Freeview which is built in. £1000+ is a lot to spend on a TV (when you're a student) so i just want to go over a few points to put my mind at rest...

1) Is the TV 1080i or is it only 720p?

2) Does/can this TV suffer from screen burn? I'm one of those people who leave their xbox360 on the dashboard all day (about 6 hours) would this burn into the screen?

3) The tv will be in my bedroom, which is about 20 feet away from the downstairs arial socket in the wall. What would the best way of connecting it be? (i can't get an arial put in upstairs, i'm not staying here too long)

4) Where is the cheapest place to get this TV - I need it on finance - At least 12 months

Thanks very much

It's 1280 x 720 resolution, so it will only ever display 720p, no matter what you feed it with. It will accept a 1080i input over component and HDMI, I think. No screen burn.

If you're a student and moving around, get a 26" or 32" LCD instead! You might not have room for a 50" set next time you move.

Or, you know, a 14" portable, and spend the rest on beer.

Thanks for the advice, but i've thought about your point about moving around an may not having room - but what if i move into a big enough house, i'm stuck with a 32". 26" is out of the question. Far too small for any sized room IMO.

Is the Samsung 32" ( the popular one) 1080i ? or is that only 720p aswell?

I want it for the PS3 aswell you see...

If you want a screen with actual 1920 x 1080 resolution, I think the Sharp and Philips LCDs are your only choices at the moment.

Oh right. They're both pretty ugly though aint they.

I think i'll just go for the Sony 50". It doesn't seem too big on that new stand anyway.

Where the best place to get it on finance?

Unless things have changed from when I was a student, anywhere that will finance it for you.
