Samsung 40" LCD needs new dvd player.
Hiya
I have just got a new Samsung LCD 40" tv and my Pioneer dvd525 has
started to play up so I have started investigating a new dvd player.
My Pioneer was multi region and I have quite a number of region 1 dvd's.
So I need multi region, + and - cdr compatibility, and i can use either HDMI or Component. I have read very mixed reviews about upscaling so I really
am at your mercy. I have been concerned about the mixed reactions to the sd-350 which I have been considering.
Any advice would be gratefully received. I would prefer to spend upto £150ish but will stretch to £200 if it is worth it.
thanks for any responses.

Samsung 850. I'm using mine with a 40"Samsung LCD and the supplied HDMI lead. Can't fault it for £100.

On such a big screen it's probably worth spending a bit more on a DVD player otherwise why buy such an expensive big screen on to compromise to a cheap DVD player.
The Samsung DVD player is fine for a 28" wide screen telly, on a 40" LCD it will reveal a lot of picture noise.
Maybe consider the Denon 1920 or 2910 (preferable for a 40" LCD screen) and shop around as you can get these players for 200 and 450 respectivly and I suggest you test both.
If it were me with a 40" LCD I would have no hesitation in going for the Pioneer 898 or 989.
Hope this helps.

I would add the Arcam DV79 to that list
For the money the best DVD player sub £1k IMHO. And I have had a few sub £1k players this last year

I suppose it depends on how many DVDs you've got, and how often you watch them!
I'm waiting for HD formats to arrive before spending big money on a player. The 850 is excellent for the price, certainly far better than the Panasonic DVD-RAM recorder I've used for the past couple of years. I was going to buy a 1920, but I got fed up waiting for my dealer to get stock, and took a chance on the 850.
I prefer to spend the extra cash on the sound system.
