Rear speakers to match KEF iQ5/iQ6c

I am in the process of updating AV system.
Now have KEF iQ5 L & R with iQ6c centre for AVR250/DV79.

I am looking for some rear speakers to replace my old ones, but they need to be slimline or "lifestyle". I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or advice? Would the sound be "unbalanced" if I have larger speakers at the front as compared to the back? I was thinking about KEF KHT 6000s.

I would appreciate your comments!

The iQ8ds really aren't that big and the lighter wood finishes really help them to blend. My Q2ds are much larger but really don't impose.

If the iQ8ds really are too much, then it makes sense to try and keep your surrounds in the family to minimise the tonal diiferences. Prior to the Q2ds is was using Kef Eggs for all four surrounds and it worked surprisingly well, despite the size mismatch.

You can always go for the cheap and good Q1. Very worthy speakers.

Thanks for your advice. Have looked at iQ1s and they are nice, but they seem a bit big for rear speakers, though they would match.

When you say Q1, do you mean the old Kef q series? Can you still get them?

Do you think eggs would work? would they be better than my two leftover Mission FS2s that I am using at the moment?

And......final question.....about a sub (know it might be the wrong forum!).
Looked at Rel quake, or would I be better sticking to something made by Kef?

Too many questions I know - sorry!!

At an equivalent price, No. I've had Kef subs. Look at the likes of the MJ Ref150, BK Gemini and SVS PB10 . The MJ (and the REL you mention) will be available for demo at numerous dealers, the SVS, in Kent and the BK on the strenght of testimonials from this forum and there is a lot of them. Personally, I would not buy anything I couldn't hear first, but some kind hearted individuals may offer the chance for you to hear them in situ, if they are confident they made the right choice.

The iQ1s are the direct equvalent to the old Q compact, ie they both have the 130mm driver. The 130mm driver is far superior, pound for pound than the 165mm driver of the old Q1. Never-the-less, they both require stand mounting, so in practical terms, there's not much difference when it comes to accomodating them.

I would still really recommend finding a way to accomodate the dipoles, particularly if you are into film rather than audio.

I will have a pair of Q 2 DS in "apple" for sale on the classifieds soon
when I get round to checking where the box is etc.

These are wall mounted dipoles which do not stick out a great deal into the
room and can be placed high up on the side/rear walls

As you say - there is no amount of advice that substitutes for the real experience!

Will give a few combos a try.

They're not bad, but they're too small to compete with the Qs. I have been using a pair as my rear surrounds, but now I have reconfigured to bi-amp my front L&R they are about to go on Ebay. They worked very well but the advantages of bi-amping far outways the addition of rear surrounds - at least within my system.

I previously used them as my suround L&R and always thought them worthy - until I replaced them with the Q2ds. I then realised that Eggs work well in an all Egg systen, but otherwise, they are out of their depth. Tonally they sounded a bit 'cupped hand' and they lacked ultimate loudness capability. If you had a complete Egg setup, you'd never notice, but with full size speakers their limitations are all too apparent.

You can mount the eggs on the wall and save money on the stands.

If I had Q or iQ fronts I would't mind...

And I prefer a good set of Bookshelf speakers too...

Thanks to both of you!

Are your Q2ds mounted on the wall or can they be put on stands - I don't think i would get away with puting them on the wall lol?
Think I am going to go for iQ1s or the dipoles.
