SED's low brightness

I was very interested in sed technology untill I saw a state in a website that despite the very high contrast ratio 100000:1, their brightness will be at 400 cd/m².
This is very low in comparison with plasmas don t you think?
Maybe this is why they produce very deep blacks.
But what about watching them in a bright enviroment?
Someone who had been at CES 2006 stated that they had SEDs in a very dark room.
With such a low brightness and a reflective front glass they ll be unwatchable in a bright enviroment.

The Panasonic is only 545 cd/m2 and that is plenty bright enough.

I don't think it will be a problem, unless you want to use it in a conservatory or similar, and the benifits far outweigh the low brightness.

Toshiba have already stated that in bright conditions, LCD wins hands down, but most people don't watch in bright conditions - mainly darkened or completely dark conditions.

I get a headache if I watch in the dark, I hope the screens aren't too dim as I'm waiting for these screens!

Probably need to adjust your brightness level and maybe contrast, to prevent the headache from occurring.

I saw the Thoshiba SED display at CES and was very impressed. I have been in the consumer electronics industry for over 15yrs. In that time I have seen many high end video display devices. The SED Rocks!! One of the reasons for demo'ing the display in such a controlled light environment is to allow viewers to see how well the device does in the low brightness areas of the image. It is much easier to see these qualities in a controlled lighting environment.
