Exclamation Mounting a Plasma over a Radiator

Hi,

I have not seen this discussed before, I want to mount a plasma screen on the wall but the only suitable place is above a radiator, how will the heat effect it?

I should say that I will be housing the radiator in a cabinet and using Radiator Reflector Foil to reflect as much heat as possable into the room.

Can anyone offer advise or comment?

Same problem and would like to know what you descide to do. Personally I was thinking about ripping out the rad and re locating on a different wall. Have you bought yet? I would have thought an LCD would be better suited than a plasma as they run far cooler.

Just a thought.

I was hoping that by fitting a rad cabinet I wouldn’t have a problem, but now it's getting near to making a decision regarding the installation and I'm wondering what to do.

Removing the rad is not an option, but I don’t have the plasma yet.

Most people seem to suggest measuring the temperature at the point where your TV is to be mounted. Any TV is going to put out a fair bit of internal heat anyway.

I've considered the temperature above the radiator where I plan to hang mine and it doesn't feel particularly hot but until its done a couple of years above it I'm not going to know for sure

Hi

I think that as long as I use plenty of Radiator Reflector Foil to reflect the hest especially on the inside at the top of the cabinet I should be OK!

i don't think it would cause as much heat as a fire place, i'd be more worried about the heat making the fans run faster thus noiser plasma.

Hi

Had exactly the same issue done a few measurements and discovered that the heat on the wall from our rad dropped significantly after about 6-12".

So used a rad cabinet as shown in the thread below, to be honest i think the plasma now kicks out nearly as much heat from the rear of the set as comes out of the top of the rad.

insulated the top of the rad cabinet with silver foil to further deflect any heat

seems to work a treat , just means we have the cosy fire on more now in this cold weather

regards

karl

A mate of mine has just done this.....
he had a panny PW7 mounted 12 - 14" above a rad.....the rad had one of these wooden covers covering it....there was no noticable increase in temp above the rad once it was on.
