What DVDs will be re-released in HD?
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where i could find if a film/tv show has been shot in HD, i am starting now to cut back on the number of DVDs i buy as i don't want to have to buy them again when/if they are released again with a higher quality.

Seeing as most films are shot on 35mm film, which then has HD masters composed from it, I would say that all films currently on dvd (except poor or dated prints) will be available on HD over time, just as they were on dvd.
TV shows may differ in some regard, depending upon which format they are shot and stored on.

exactly!
if there enuf consumer demand and hence profit for the studios, pretty much anythign adn everything shot in 35/16mm will be downconverted to HD. |

Any movie shot on film can be scanned for HD and it will be true HD. Film can actually record more detail than any HD movie camera on the market.
Most films are still made on film and scanned in HD during the telecine process. It can then be downconverted for the regular DVD release (which is what the Stealth cover is talking about).
The only reason they do this is so in a year or so they don't have to scan the film again for HDTV, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. "Mastered in hi-def" is for the studios benefit mainly. It saves them time and money.

There are quite alot of shows at the moment which are being recorded in HD so no doubt they will appear on either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray over the next few years.
