Picked this up on DVD yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it  ...right upto the note at the end where it says it was based on real life events. I knew nothing about the film before buying it - a standard impulsive purchase as so happens occurs on Friday evening - but I was amazed that it was based/inspired by real life events, i.e. that the people in it were real people who actually disappeared.

If the case was solved it would be fine...if the fate of the young women was known it would be fine... (provided on both accounts it was done in a repectable way)...to change the names and call it total fiction would be fine...but to make a film like that which showed brutal injuries to real people whose ultimate fate has been unsolved seems...well in very bad taste.

I am probably one of the least sensitive people on the planet...but to make a film that shows the women being slashed/injured/raped/hunted down/tortured etc seems awful. What must their poor parents feel when watching this film?

I actually feel :censored: guilty about ever watching this film now :suicide: Have I completely lost the plot on this or does anyone else feel the same?

MOD EDIT: please do not circumvent the swear filter

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Clearly not. It was quite a good film though  Just a bit morally dubious!

wolf creek is not actually based on any one event , rather it is inspired by various incidents in australia's history (Ivan Milat, Bradley Murdoch, the Snowtown killers)........ the important word being inspired ;)

Oh I see. The way it appeared at the end - when they were saying where 'Ben' lives now and that the two named girls have never been found - made it sound like it was about real people.

i liked the movie, but i think the "true story" thing held it back somewhat. they sort of hinted at rape and torture but stopped well short of showing anything too harsh.

Head on a stick anyone :rotfl:

potential spoilers below

yeah but you didn't see if he did anything to this head on a stick.. they could have at least shown her again at the end perhaps sharing the same fate as the one we saw "hanging around" earlier in the movie..

when fargo was released it was claimed that it was "based on a true story" (and that the body lying face down in the snow was the artist formerly known as prince) both of which were infact untrue......... wolf creek is claimed to be based ona true story when in fact it is actually inspired by real events ........ lots of diferent real events went together to inspire the writer  it would make me think twice about visiting huge craters in the middle of the outback though

I was lucky enough to watch this movie at the cinema in Australia on general release. Cracking and bought the DVD last week. Its not Goodfellas is it but fine enough. Over in OZ, people actually got up and walked out during the head on a stick scene.

The last half hour is brutal, inforgiving and final, much like the subject matter.

Oh, and the actor John Jarrett plays a right old softy in one of OZ's biggest TV shows, Mcleods Daugters.....:)

I liked it. Saw it last night but I didn't think it was scary, scary as they made it out to be but nonetheless once the guy in the truck came to help you just knew there was trouble brewing and this helped to keep you griped.

Without giving to much away I couldn't understand why they didn't attempt to push start the car when they were miles from nowhere

Well worth a few watches.

Fair comment but thats the old horror cliche being used to good effect and making sure the movie lasts over half an hour :) How many films have we all watched screaming - start the engine, dont go outside, lock the door......

By the way all, forgot to say but the director of Wolf Creek is currently working on a new film, again based in OZ but about a killer crocodile :) I pressume he is hoping to reinvent the killer croc genre and juxtapose it against classics such as .....

um....

well....

ah....

ho hum....

Crocodile Dundee? (tenuous I agree).

Nope. Ah, Lake Placid - does not count as comedy really.

Yea know what you mean. Just thought it a bit weak and unconvincing at that part. I mean going right out in the wilderness with no car knowledge and no way of outside contact... duh! Could've made it last another another 5-10mins :)

Suppose the really scary thing is that 'real' people actually do that everyday of the week and never come home and even the best laid plans can turn sour when you come up against someone horrific like Bradley Murdoch or Ivan Milat :(

I didn't find it scarey but not a bad film. If you want scarey then go and see hostel, the new Tarintino film

Turned this off just as the bloke arrived at Wolf Creek to help with the car. Found it slow and the acting terrible. Keep hearing good things about it through so might try it again on a slow day.

that's like turning off independence day when jeff goldblum says "time's up" or turning off titanic when you hear "iceberg, dead ahead!" .. i would suggest you give it another go!
