I have been going to buy this for while now as my Wife wants to watch it but have been deciding if to buy the R3 DTS 96/24 version. There have been a few threads on here about it but I wondered if anyone had actually done a back to back test with the R2 DTS track to check if it is actually any better?
The R2 is now available for £3.99 in some places so if the R3 is no better I may as well just get that?

I couldnt tell you what the difference is like between the two, but r2 sounds amazing and the picture is fantastic. Highly recommend it at that price.:smashin:

Can't remember exactly, but if my memory serves me well, there is a pressing error (or was) with the R2 which affected the soundtrack. I think, with that in mind, I'd consider one of the other regions.

This may explain why all the UK R2 copies I have seen have a sticker on the front about going into the options and choosing sound options or something?

What do you mean by pressing error?

The soundtrack had 3 areas of dropout on the soundtrack. I don't know if this is still the case (they may have re-pressed the disc) or not, but it was quite a large debate here at the time of release (just do a search for Phantom of the Opera)
The DTS sound track on the R2 has been pitch corrected.
This has caused some minor sound issues.
Because most people don't even notice pal speed up, these apparent sound issues probably won't get noticed either.
Personally, I notice the speed up in the tones of people voices never mind the fact all music I recognise sounds too fast!

I have read through all the posts about the R2 sound problem and the DTS 96/24 on the R3 and it seems that the R3 is the one to go for allthough I dont think it was cleared up if the DTS track was actually a 96/24 after all?

The normal R3 that CD-Wow had was also 96/24, it was the same disk set as the Ltd. Edition box - just without the box and bits :)

That was due to the film being flagged with DTS as the default sound setting on the disc if i remember correctly and told people they had to change it.......well those with out amps and DTS that is.
