Just to say if anyone has the disappointing non anamorphic R2 version of this it is definitely worth picking up the R1 CE version, which is 2.35:1 anamorphic. The pic is much better.
Cool slip case too. :smashin:

Picked it up ages ago, big improvement on the R2 version.
Only wish that they would release an anamorphic print of Dragon The Bruce Lee Story. 2.35:1 is so old school now!

Worth noting some R2s (Germany, France (I think)) are remastered anamorphic versions now...
Why they've got it and we haven't is anyone's guess.

They're fallin' out the skies like flies.
They practically own South America.
I love this film!

Have you noticed when Palmer offers to fly the doc to the Norwegian site a voice says "Forget it Palmer".
The voice is McCreadys' but McCready isn't in the room, he's outside.

I have the R2 version but never watched it as the PQ is so poo. I'd rather wait for the HD version.

One of, if not my favourite film of all time:thumbsup:
I never get tired of watching The Thing so it was great when the R1 anamorphic version was released (the R2 looked terrible on the projector:eek: ).
It is also the one movie I want to have a sequel but also don't want to have one in case it is crap and ruins the reputation of the first one.

If they do they should keep CGI to a minium and use animatronics again. With lashings of offal of course.

That's the problem though...it so obviously would be a CGI fest if a sequel was made now.
I honestly think the time has passed a The Thing 2 movie to be made...it's a shame as there was a lot of possible storylines to explore but in a sense the open ended nature of the 'is one of them The Thing?' ending of the original is what makes it such a great movie.

And you could never get a stand in for Kurt Russel, it just wouldn't be the same.

MacReady looks a bit like him judging by his Avatar. :)

Yeah! Get Rob Bottin back in.
That head sequence is still the most amazing thing ever.
Who needs CGI with effects that good.
It's my most favourite film of all time.

Now there's an idea..I will star in the sequel:smashin:
I suppose if they did keep the CGI to a minimum, and used practical effects (by Mr Bottin of course) wherever possible, then they could do a sequel set some 25 years later.
Kurt could still play Mac but I think it would be great if he were not even in the movie for at least the first half. Maybe start the movie with a helicopter travelling over a snowscape again towards an outpost station..bit of deja vu...but then speed ahead of the copter to a lone figure outside the station listening to a radio signal from the chopper demanding a situation report. He then looks at his hand in terror whilst raising a gun in his other and blows his brains out..
The helicopter flies around the camp a couple of times then flies off..we see the word Norge on the side;). The camera lingers on the dead mans hand in the snow as blood from what is left of his head turns the snow red around it...and it slowly begins to change and stretch turning into what looks like a deformed animal jaw...then a missile hits the base and it is vaporised!
.....
.........sorry, getting carried away...I could never be a script writer that is for sure;)

I'd love to see a really special edition remastered in DD EX and DTS ES with, the option to view, the rare US TV version which shows McCready getting his blood testing results.

McReady is the Thing but is genetically reprogrammed to become a protector of the Human race, killing other Things with an Uzi 9mm while shouting "I'll be back!"

I thought there was a scene that was removed from the final cut when the movie was released, something to do with MaCready being in an office in South America and he turns into a big thingy and eats everyone (right at the end of the movie)...
If there were to be a sequel, it would be a good place to start !

Rob Bottin tried for years to get a sequel off the ground with him directing but it never came to anything. The last I heard they were talking about doing a Thing TV series.
Personally, I could absolutely live without a sequel to it: it's perfect the way it is and it would spoil the ending.

It was going to be a Sci Fi Channel mini movie series/sequel. I think Frank Darabont was producing last I heard but everything about this has been quiet for so long now I am starting to think it may not have happened ?

Well I am still in two minds about the possible mini movie sequel series if it happens. It could end up ruining the reputation of a fantastic movie that, imho, still stands the test of time when watched today!
But, after seeing what the Si Fi Channel have achieved with the Battlestar Galactica series, it could end up being a very dark, gory continuation of the story for an adult audience.
