My old Goodmans/phillips has given up the Ghost after 7 years. I had hoped my old TV would hold on until the industry settled down a bit.
My gut feeling is to buy another cheap 4:3 to allow the next generation of flat screens to reach a sensible price, alas I was seduced by the Samsung WS-32Z306VB on display in Currys, after trying three of them I obtained a refund from Currys see current threads on this model. I then saw a Medion 32" LCD on offer in a Tchibo shop as they have a 3 year warranty on all electrical products and no quible on return, if not happy with a product I gave it a try.
The spec was good 1366X768 resolution 800:1 contrast ratio 500cd/m and 8ms response, @ £699. Alas after two weeks and calls to The Technical help line I have returned it, no problems with refund. Look at threads on his model so beware. The picture is not up to scratch as far as I,m concerned and as with the Samsung it did not show a 16:9 picture on its analogue tuner. I was informed by the Customer services chap that it only is for use on digital Television, why I asked do they fit the set with an analogue tuner his reply was that they have not had any complaints and most peolple watch on Zoom one picture size setting. I then gave up, it would seem that many TVs are like this and the public seem to be getting a bad deal but are not bothered and will tolerate the wrong aspect ratios displayed on their latest Televisions
So it's back to plan A by a cheap 4:3 to tide me over until the industry gets its act into order.
