Very interested in this service.

Once downloaded and stored on the hard drive, could I burn it onto a DVD and then put it in to my dvd player?

It is the new Jamo DRM-60 and will play DivX movies or alternatively it has a USB input which I could possibly use.

What thoughts?

I am afraid you can not burn them. It is a wmv file with DRM which lasts for 30 days and then the file is deleted from your pc

So I need a mediacentre PC that will output compnent or up scaled HD for my TV and a optical or coax output for my surround sound box?

Also, once the file is downloaded, can I transfer it to another PC on my network?

Actually thinking about it, can I also play WMV files on my Ipaq, if so I could transfer the file to my 1Gb card and watch it on the move?

Sorry for all the questions.

Chris

Will these files stream to a xbox 360 though media xtender?

YEP just downloaded I robot and streamed it to the 360 over wireless.
File was only about 712 meg so quality was not too great and no 5.1 sound, but hey it works!

cool.

Just spoke to SKY, the install will work on XP MCE, but you will ONLY be able to view on the main PC via a bespoke app and not via an extender or any other remote system.... this is no different from having SKY+ box (actually it's less as its only 4 channels) and hence pretty useless....

Thats a strange reply from sky, considering i watched it directly from WMP10 and not their app. Just went to the download directory and played the file from there.
How did you work out 4 channels there is only a sport and movies channel isnt there?

Their techie told me the files would not be accessible due to licensing and that you needed a special player on the same machine to view - seems like he was wrong.

As for the channels :
http://www.sky.com/skybybroadband/home

It says you can see stuff from sports 1&2 plus movies 1&2 - that's 4. I guess if you are downloading 'archive' stuff then you get lots more - but I wanted to use it on MCE almost like you would with a built in freeview card.... I guess it does mean that you can schedule downloads and watch via an MCE extender.....

Anyone tried it or got more facts/experience ?

if it only lasts 30days there will be ways around it. Not legally of course.

the download time sounded weird to me said a 2hr film should take the same amount of time to download. what is it using as its download speed?

I think that figure is based on a 2mb line.
This system uses p2p, so it will probably depend on how many other people have downloaded it. I downloaded 1 film and it took over 10 hours for a 500mb file!
Also be aware the service runs constantly in the background unless you press pause in the sky application as far as I can tell.

XBox 360 works fine as long as you either download it, or export it (via mediaplayer) to the MC PC. Pocket PC (2003se/2005) theoretically will work, however the devices so far do not have the required version of theDRM stuff on them.

There is a way to de-DRM them(Check Here) (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=89243&page=21&pp=20) but it's not point and click by any means, but does work ;)
