This might give an indication of what to expect in the UK.
"Concerning the HD DVD player, it was exhibited with the CEATEC and the like, besides the fact that the actual sale price " of HD-XA1 " was notified 799.99 dollars, also " HD-A1 " of the inexpensive model was announced anew. To be sold in March, as for actual sale price 499.99 dollars."
"From game industry, the flat well one man CEO participates from the Sony Computer Entertainment America. From the support of the CD-ROM of the PS1 and the DVD-ROM of the PS2, it becomes the next generation platform, with " PLAYSTATION 3 ", you explain that the BD-ROM is adopted. Concerning the support reason, it emphasizes the large capacity and transfer speed of 2 layer 50GB, is due to the 1080p output of the PS3 the " HD World " was appealed."
"Because the PS3 comes out as the cheap BD player, avoiding competition as a Pioneer, just made just the advanced expensive case machine probably.
Playback of the HD DVD " only " the Toshiba machine and the new generation game of 50000 Yen which it is not possible and the playback of the Blu-ray " " the combining ぇ to which 70000 Yen which it is possible (hypothesis) the PS3, the general people buys which and probably will be?
The PS3 50000 Yen kana and others, as for the HD DVD probably is death decision instantaneously with this."
Basically if they make the PS3 350 quid (in Japan)then people may sway between the two formats but if it is released at 250 quid then they could finish off the HDDVD market. Also because of the delay in release they will now adopt 16bit HDMI giving it 1080p output. Bye-Bye HDDVD!
The Xbox 360 costs 38,800 (195GBP) here, then you need to add a HDDVD to it some time this year which will cost - what? so I certainly feel Sony might do a special entry edition at 50,000...
