Windows application to control AVR-4306

I have been experimenting with my new 4306.

I can control it using the supplied web or telnet interface.

I was considering writing a windows application to read status and send commands using the telnet interface.

Has anyone already done this to save me the trouble?
Would anyone be interested in it, if I wrote it?

Also as I have a squeezebox 3 network audio player, I am considering a plugin to the slimserver that would allow the squeezebox or a remote to control the amp using the slim server software, any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bruce.

The internet radio function gives you a list of radio stations, categorised into countries and genres, you choose and it plays.

Once you have played it once, you can log onto radiodenon.com and configure your favourites.

It can also play mp3s stored on your windows PC if you run a windows media connect server on it.

Finally you can control all the amps functions through either a telnet session, or through a web interface.

Hope this answers your question.

Girder should be excellent for this. Haven't seen it in a while though.... It used to be a kind of IR control software, but it has expanded beyond that.

The US website is excellent for info about this. My 2805 has a serial port and the US website had a full set of commands for the 2805/3805 so you could control it from a PC

Bruce, can you save customised level and eq settings for each input?

E.g. A different config/setup for music and Movies?

Thanks.

I've almost finished a proof of concept windows application to control the AVR-4306.
Currently it is a microsoft Access application (quick and easy).
It allows you to switch on and off, mute on and off, volume and source selection.
It also updates live when you control the amp manually.

If anyone is interested in taking a look at this app, then post here and I will circulate the app when it is at a vaguely publishable stage.

Cheers,
Bruce.

Love my brand new 4306.

Using Twonkymedia as a server successfully BUT would rather use a UPnP controller, NevoSL PDA or Cidero on the PC to stream MP3s. These 2 do recognise the "Network Audio" device (4306) but fail at the last hurdle in actually delivering music.

Any advice anyone?

Any alternative?

BruceH: your idea looks very interesting

Bruce,

I would be interested in anything you have produced. I'll give it a try and see if I can break it :-)

Please do tell me about this Telnet interface.

The internet radio is quite good as you don;t need to faff around with a PC and off the stations I have listend to so far - no adverts - no DJ speaking - so even if the music is crap its an improvement.

I have miine connected into my network, I have tried it several ways and had the router by the amp and streamed music wirelessly from my PC upstairs. But liked the idea of having the cable connection from the router to my main PC so purchased a Netgear WPS606 printserver. This comes with a 4 port switch so I thought I could plug this into my amp. Well the internet radio worked fine but the media connect didn't. The amp was recognised but the displayed showed (Not Authorised) and you couln't select that option on the menu. I think the reason why this wouldn't work was because the switch in the printserver passes its own LAN IP address to the network so when you look at the attached devices on the router it sees the Denon but gives indicates the Print servers IP address. Anywho, its gone back for a refund so back to plan A.

Just been think as I have been typing. Are any of you on ADSL through the phone line. If you want to listen to the internet radio, do you have to boot a PC somewhere to then connect to the internet. I am on cable so it is really "Always On". If that is the case with the ADSL, what a pain.

Cheers

ADSL is always on too, particularly if you use a router to connect to it, in the same way as cable.

If anyone PMs me their email address, i'll send them my little 4306 app to play with. it is definitely a work in progress application.

The telnet interface is described in a technical document that you can get (amongst other places) at http://brucehartley.com/cinema/ on the equipment page.

If you telnet into the amp, you receive status updates and can send commands to control it.
Same as the RS232 serial interface on previous Denon receivers.

That is how my little application works.
