Sony announce new 55" SXRD RPTV

As you would expect, Sony have annonced many new high tech home entertainment products at a busy-sounding CES yesterday. This included a new 55" SXRD TV that is almost half a deep as the existing 50" model. It is so slim it can go on a shelf.

It is reported to have two 1080p-capable HDMI inputs at last. Just imagine that, no more worry about dodgy de-interlacing, double-scaling, incompatible source and display resolutions, wobulation etc; this could be really special.

There's not much more information yet, like model number, price, availability, 50Hz or PAL compatibility etc, but this could be the set that was rumoured in these pages some time ago.....

Cheers Nick,

I am waiting patiently for Sony to launch this in the UK along with the 60" this year. I was told they are both being launched here as 1080P sets in March.

But this new information of a slimmer design is great news, I would imagine that the UK will get the new design.

Cheers

Nick

I wouldn't count on that, the euro market always seems to get the outgoing stuff and even then in a cut down form. The current 50" Sony being a prime example. Hope I'm proved wrong as I would lover to swap my 3LCD Sony for the "newer" slimmer SXRD set.
