Hi
Forgive me for hijacking your post (kind of)... I am in the same situation too... I will be ordering my first LCD shortly (Tosh 37WLT58) and am having trouble deciding on the best HD upscaling DVD player.. The Tosh or Sammy (not really considered anything else yet)..
My question is to do with the new DVD standard to come out next year - Blu-Ray and the other one (not sure if the battle was won, but Blu-Ray has a green light). Anyway, could be a silly question but will these upscaling DVD players run the new standard at it's full potential OR will we have to fork out for new hardware? If yes then I might just wait..
Thanks for any info
Jon

jon i am in the same situation, AND i was also considering those 2 players , the sammy more coz comet are chucking in a free hdmi cable , they are worth about 30-40 quid so if they can offer that it says to me they want rid of the sammy quickish, the thing that is holding me back is 1 ur reason and 2 they both have and are getting a lot of critisism on here {slaggin}...if i do go for 1 like i said it will be just a stop gap and it will be the sammy again coz of the free cable which will save me a few quid when i do replace it .but make sure u get a demo of this player first on the tv u will have to put your mind at rest that way u will be happier with ur decision.
hope this helps.....;)

Hello all
The DVD Video players you are discussing are not compatible with either of the Blue Laser High Definition Optical standards we are due to see launched in 2006 (Blu-ray DVD and HD DVD).
The DVD Video players your are discussing don't convert your Standard Definition DVD Video's to High Definition they simply re-map the 720x480 (NTSC) and 720x576 (PAL) pixels of your Standard Definition DVD discs to match the 1280x720P or 1920x1080i formats used by High Definition Source and Display devices.
Up-converting your DVD discs within the player is worthwhile if the up-conversion within the Player produces a better onscreen image compared to letting your high resolution Display do the conversion to match the number of pixels in the Display.
There is no guarantee that its always best to undertake this up-conversion within the DVD player your Display may do a better job than the up-converting DVD player.
A better option for you to consider would be the likes of a SnaZio SZ1350 Net Cinema HD networkable DVD Player - in addition to offering you up-conversion to 720P and 1080i for playback of your DVD Video discs this player can Stream High Definition files from your PC or MAC and Output a true High Definition 720P or 1080i signal to your Display.
The difference between an up-converted DVD and a true High Definition file is pretty huge.

i have been using this player for a few weeks now, without any problems. PQ quality is very good, at first it did freeze a bit, got a good dvd cleaner (£18) from www.play.com it does help.
somebody on these forums had a problem with Land of the Dead, so rented it last night, the dvd was a bit dirty, so cleaned it, it played with out any problems pq was very good.
