Sagem HDD50 G4 Problems. Advice Please

Just been delivered today.

Was expecting problems after reading posts here but we both liked the TV so much (size, price, style) we risked it.

First noticed problem is a 5" long 1" wide smear at one side of the screen (bit like a giant amoeba)

Then after an hour the hum started but this wasn't too bad and to be honest I've stopped noticing it.

There is a certain amount of macroblocking.

Alot of noise especially around lettering and channel logo's.

Small green flashing specks on dark scenes.

On hdmi through a Denon 1920 the picture seems fantastic so we're going to watch afew DVD's tonight.

Does anyone know if the above are definate TV faults or could they be from our NTL cable box or scart lead.

Thanks

I did have this model for a few weeks. Only saw noise on picture through sky when using a cheap scart. A better quality scart sorted that out. Freeview picture was excellent on most channels, so if your freeview is OK then it must be a dodgy cable. I certainly didn't see any green specks on this tv at any time - though there were plenty of other problems unrelated to the picture quality.

Just watched Pirates of the Caribbean and the picture was fantastic , very cinematic with great natural colour and no artifacts. Will therefore invest in a quality scart lead and hope this improves cable picture.

PQ from the NTL cable boxes in my experience is abysmal - especially on non-premium channels. The macroblocking and some of the other symptoms you report is almost certainly the poor quality signal from the NTL box.

A decent scart lead will help to a certain degree, but at the end of the day it could be the crappy cable box. If you have one of the old grey Pace boxes (the one you are afraid to press the red interactive button on), then I don't think you will get much joy.

Make sure you have the cable box setup to use RGB Scart and have it plugged into a RGB capable scart socket on the TV.
