Need a 25m HDMI cable. Who sells them?

I need to start thinking about getting an hdmi cable installed for my projector. It is currently running on a 25m componant from the nack of my Yamaha RXV650 but I am upgrading the amp to a Yamaha 2600 so want to use the HDMI out with the in built scaler.

I need at least a 25m cable and I want it to be good quality...but can't really afford to be spending more than about £300-£350

Is there anywhere that sells HDMI cables of this length for a reasonable price?

Hello Macready

The UK SRP on a BetterCables HDMI-31-HH is £334.95 - the next length down is the HDMI-23-HH at £269.95; both of these are tested to 1080P.

See http://www.bettercables.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=114

WireWorld have the NEW 720P compliant Silver Starlight at 25m with a UK SRP of £1,999.95 - which makes the BetterCables pricing seem very reasonable

Not sure if anyone else has 25m HDMI cables at present.

Best regards

Joe, many thanks for the reply.

£1,999.95 I think that may be a bit out of my price range

Only need a 1m HDMI to go to the TV..the 25m one is to go from the back of the amp, the full way around the room behind the skirting board, up some trunking hidden in the wall, under the floorboards in our bedroom and down the mount to the ceiling mounted projector....around 23/24 metres in total

Unfortunately at that length there is no cheap option that would reliably work, in most cases you are pushing it a 15m!

Hi MacReady,

I used Media Factory just before Christmas to buy a 15m BetterCables HDMI cable and cannot recommend them highly enough. I dealt with John from there and he was very helpful. I can also say that the cable is great. I was a little concerned about spending such a large amount of money on one cable but they were happy to let me try it out and if not entirely happy with it could return it and only pay the postage costs.

I hope that helps and a big thumbs up for Media Factory, I just wish more retailers were as helpful.

I know, but the thought of having to explain to my Wife that £350 for a cable is 'cheap' is not something I am looking forward to

It was not nice explaining that the componant cable was costing over £200 when I first installed the projector.

It may not be your preferred option, but is there not a more direct route the cable could take? If you could reduce it to 15m for instance, you could obtain a cable for less than £150.

Not really. The route was considered when the projector was first installed. There is a large window directly behind where the TV/screen/amp are (have a look at the link in my sig and you will see what I mean) so the cable would still have to route through that and then up the wall and along two bedroom floors before it got to the projector. The other bedroom floor it would go under has a LOT of pipes and cable under it already so it was ruled out pretty early and the componant was run around the room behind the hollow skirting and then up some trunking to the main bedroom floor. I just can't stand the thought of having the cable showing in the room so it looks like I will just have to pay the price for a 25m one.

Found this which may be of help:

http://www.lindy.com/uk/productfolde...1263/index.php

You could use HDMI / DVI adapters at each end to create a 25m HDMI lead, perhaps worth a try?

These people sell a coupler that allows you to connect two HDMI cables together, so in theory you could buy two smaller lengths and join them together. Sorry I don’t know how to post the exact link.

Search for QED HDMI Interconnect Adapter

you could get 25 1m cables and 24 couplers but the signal still has to go down 25m of copper and thats the issue every surface contact you add is going to degrade the signal a little bit add enough and you get no picture add a few less and its full of sparklies HDMI may be "digital" but its still a voltage on some copper

The question i would ask is this WHAT the HELL do you need HDMI for???

The other question is (how much discount will joe give me)

Hello all

MacReady - great looking room; its always tricky trying to combine so many uses into one space.

Picking up one of your replies on your other Thread I think for the Rears and Surrounds I'd be tempted to not go for anything to 'skinny' to hide the cables - how about some MDF (covered in your wall paper) the same width as the spks; held off the walls a little to allow you to put some more wall wash lighting in place.

ZippyCat - you can try all sorts of combinations of cables, adapters, jointers etc - your potentially going to run into difficulties with all of them. Loosing the HDCP handshaking is a common problem with long HDMI runs and running the cables past low voltage transformers is another source of problems with the lower spec cables.

If your tempted to start joining multiple cables and or using DVI to HDMI adapters you MUST test everything thoroughly before you fix any cables in place - and ensure your supplier is willing to take back any cables or adapters if you have problems.

For every conceivable adapter and joiner you can ever want we always turn to Gefen - its always handy to have a stock of these at hand for emergencies; see http://www.gefen.com/kvm/htconverters.jsp

Best regards

Joe
