basic rgb input q

Hi guys,

Probably a real basic question, i have an old sony 1040qm pj which i am currently using composite video input on, but i want to get a syncblaster cable and use rgb input. My question is, is it worth it on on this machine i.e. will i notice a big differnce. Secondly i am using a 3 year old sony dvd player i can't remember the mode number etc. but am i right in assuming that the scart out socket is an rgb output? Also which syncblaster cable do i need the scart to 4 bnc which has red green and blue bnc plugs and a composite sync or do i need the 5 bnc which has seperate horizontal and vertical sync.

Many thanks Nick

Are you saying you want to input component instead of composite to your projector ?

No Tom, his DVD player outputs a 15kHz RGB signal. The connector is a SCART. That's pretty common for UK DVD players. Quite a few will also do component via the 3 x phonos that you are more familiar with state side, but doesn't seem to be the case here.

Nick, the 1041/1042 models will take RGB via 3, 4 or 5 BNC. So that's Sync on Green (3 BNC), HD/VD Sync (4 BNC) or separate Syncs (5 BNC). I don't have a manual for the 1040 but I think it will be similar.

RGB will be a cleaner signal with less noise and better edge definition. You'll notice things like the text of DVD menus will look cleaner with none of the criss cross zipping type edge distortion around primary colour letters. If your 1040 has S-video give that a try first. That should look much better than composite. RGB will look better than S.

Does the 1041 accept 32KHz horizontal scan ? I would have to recommend a new player such as the Momitsu 880-DX. It puts out DVI or RGBHV and outputs 480p,720p and 1080i and I have one here that I absolutely love.Very sharp with custom output resolutions and refresh rates.Only costs about $220 and worth every bit of it !

The 1040 is a baseband 15KHz projector. It can't accept a 32KHz signal.
