MA Radius 720 Auto off?
Hi all,
I have a Monitor Audio R720 sub running from a HK335 amp. After a while of none use the sub powers down. This is a feature. But i find it very annoying, as it will suddenly pipe back up again when a bit of action on screen happens, or adverts or something, and it dsort of crackles back into like with loits of feedback. Is there anyway to disable this feature, or is there a reason for the loud feedback type sound when it kicks in?
Regards
Paul

Fulllupo,
I've had the same problem. Shame because otherwise it's a fantastic system. Have you resolved it?
When I emailed MA about it they told me:
"The R720 should not do this, however, there is a tendency for this to sometimes happen. If you return your R720 to your nearest dealer, and explain the situation to them, they can send it back to us, we can repair it for you, and send it back."
Please let me know how you got on.

What are they going to repair? That's what the sub, and many other manufacturer's subs, do as standard! Either they misunderstood what you said or you described it incorrectly.
If you get in touch with them they may be able to disable the auto off feature, otherwise there's nothing they can do.

The auto-off feature kicks in at lower frequencies. ie. normal TV watching volumes. (this was something that MA knew about as soon as I mentioned it to them both by email and now allso by phone).
The crackling is only at very high volumes. It's almost as if there is a loose piece of plastic inside the unit.
Thanks, I let you know how I get on.

Sorry been away on holiday, didnt realise thread had been ressurected.
Since then it has been a very long winded story. I have had 3 R720's from MA now, all of which done the same thing but to differing degrees. Because ive been kicking up such a fuss they have had the guy who actually designed it fiddling around etc and the current one I have seems to be ok. It seemed perfect and I was very very happy with it until the world cup started, and it seems to sometimes struggle with the odd game. Only a couple of them though, havent worked out why yet, think ITV seems to be the channel it happens on.
I have been thinking long and hard before this last sub about trying to think of somethign else to change to, because sevenoaks would give me my money back, but i just want the MA realy because ive borrowed a rel from them and didnt rate it realy. Was pretty good, but didnt mingle well with my speakers. Also it needs to look good, and the MA wins by a mile over anything else ive seen. Only other thing i was considering was the MT30, but its extra money i dont wanna spend.
In the end i think ive decided to keep this one, as it was perfect for a couple of months until the world cup started and then about 2 games have had the odd hiccup, but I can live with that as on sky sports it seems fine and thats where all teh premiership football is.
My advice would be to send it back, as they should now have as close to a cure as they are going to get i think, and im finnaly happy with it.

Thanks Fullopo,
I had actually wondered what had happened in your case as I had seen some of your other posts in other threads.
I aggree with you on the looks and finish of the radius system. It's fantastic! If only the R720 didn't have this nagging issue. I listened to the REL as well in the store and I too felt that it didn't compare.
What was your main problem the feedbact at high volumes or the switching on and off?
In my case the crackling at high volumes seems to have resolved itself. I tested it last night with the first scene from Lord of the Rings, The return of the King, which has a great base track. And it seems to have gone away! It was almost as if there was a small piece of plastic jammed inside, which over time has dislodged itself.
The swiching on and off sporadically, unfortunately, continues unabated.
I heading over to Sevenoaks tomorrow to return it. Let's see what happens.

There are also problems with the R360 not being sensitive enough. This results in a thump when the speaker switches on as typically there is a nice low frequency scene going on at the time.
Apparently you can get a resistor changed which makes the switch on circuit a bit more sensitive.

I had a problem with a rattly type sound on one of my R720's actually thinking about it. As you said it seeemed like there was sosmething bouncing around in it. IF i recall i resolved this myself as a few of the allen key fixings at the bottom wasnt tight, and this was the sound i was hearing. Hope that resolves that one for you too, as i was fuming when i first heard mine doing that til i resolved it.
The auto off features my only gripe, but now thats all but gone too until recently as mentioned earlier, but i havent heard it again since that 1 or 2 game spell on ITV.
SO im happy as larry
