Usually the Sony models with karaoke inputs, ect are ones from the Asian market, many of which have already been modded! Silly question I know, but have you tried a R1 disc in yours to see if its already been modded?
Failing that, you can hack via the methods on the link above just about any UK sony model currently. As to changing models, thats really dependent on what features you need, but like for like would most likely be a DVP-NS30 / DVP-NS29 which you`ll pick up for about £40-ish these days.
