SED Displays

I've been reading about the SED technology? As I want to replace my aged philips 32"

Has anyone got a rough idea on how much an SED screen will cost?

I was in John Lewis's looking at the plasmas/LCD screens. The HD demo's were being fed component. It was not possible to view a standard SKY picture on any of the screens. The screens that were displaying freeview looked awful. There were a lot of dicounted screens for sale, the reason was they were returned by customers who found then un suitable!

Do plasma/lcds really look bad in the home? I've never been able to see one that's been correctly set up, or fed with SD sources.

Cheers.

I too looked at lots of Plasma's & LCD's with Freeview, analogue and DVD (don't know about sky). After two years I went for a Panasonic 42" PV500, and don't have any complaints

SED won't be available in the high street for a couple of years and will be sold at a premium price. If you are happy with your CRT and can wait that long then wait, I mean thats what I did and ended up with a great plasma.

When I first started looking three years ago I couldn't find anything better than a CRT but now I can. I leave the choice to you, just try and get to some shows or a good dealer to see the screens in all their glory as the major electrical retailers never do the screens any justice. We were in Curry's yesterday and their PV500 looked awful compared to what I have in the living room. Panasonic should kick their ass for allowing their screens to be set up so badly .

Happy New Year

Hi Rooster.

Thanks, Happy new year to you.

I think I'l take my self off to a specialist dealer, where connecting sky sd will be no problem. I have the same problem when I visit the main electrical chains, they have no clue how to set up the screens correctly.

Cheers

Another vote of confidence here for a Panasonic, but this time an LCD. We have the 32LXD500. The picture overall is great with decent enough black levels, everything is very sharp and clear. My only niggle with it is when something pans horizontally across the screen, sometimes you can notice slight.. Im not really sure what it is, the best way I can describe it is simply a loss of detail. To be honest tho, I only notice this on upclose face shots that slowly move across the screen. Whoever is floating past, their cheeks can sometimes look a tad distorted, its very minor tho. Im the only one who has noticed it so far out of the 6 people here. This is with normal channels. Everything else is more than good enough tho, football and everything. The bad point I mentioned can easily be overlooked as the TV is otherwise great. Im very happy we ditched the old CRT with the faulty tube in favour for an LCD!

Oh and anything High Def is superb so far on this set. The complaint doesnt stand with HD stuff
