Going Travelling, think my Ipod sucks, want MD??
To start I am a musician and somewhat of a audiophile, so quality is important to me.
I don't like my IPOD because:
1)It needs to be recharged...when going from countrty to country with different power, this could be annoying and problemsome
2)Battery life is not good
3)Seems unreliable in harsh climates (hot, humid, and sandy)
4)Feels like going into war in a plastic tank
I'm not too familiar with mini disk...but what I think I like is the fact that they are small, take AA or AAA batteries, and yes they require disks, but now those disks can hold 1G.
I just want something that can hold alot of music and also is very durable, but most important, does not need to be recharged. MD seems the way
What do you all think??
Thanks
Mike

MD's are old and not good
I am saying it as it is as i used to own a MD, ur best bet is to get a NW-HD5 i luv mine which has a 30 HR battery life for me removable battery so you can buy another one if you want longer time, even though they both use sonic stage i find it easier to organise and upload music to my HD5 and the MD has be chucked far away and a distant room. goto minidisk.com.au doesn't matter that its australian they are praticly giving MD's away you can get a really good one for $199 about $150 US.

I use both an HD5 and MD (or rather Hi-MD) - both are great, I wouldnt want to do without either. For Hi-MD I'd recommend the Sony MZ-NHF800 if you can get one as it has a good built in AM/FM radio. I do tend to use the Hi-MD for shorter trips but you can take more disks - and the 64k ATRAC option sounds pretty good and gives you a respectable 36 hours on a 1GB disk.
The current Hi-MD recorders ( RH10 and RH910) sound really good too, can play MP3s without conversion and use easy to get batteries - both gumsticks and AA's (in an external add on pack). No radio though...

Youcan even buy D-NE920 or D-NE20 they both have good sound quality Both Rechargable and AA battries can be used .If used both at the same you can get a battery life of 80hours ...
I use D-NE900 when i travel for long distances or Holidays ...Because of charging problem & AA battries are easily available

I bought my wife a Sony 1Gb Flash player this year. Meets all of your criteria and some.
70 Hr battery life on one AAA battery (no worries about recharging just chuck another AAA in)
Atrac compatible so holds about 50-60 albums if you use Atrac3+ at 64k
Flash memory so durable and reliable.
Picked it up for £60 off ebay but think they retail about £90 usually

Agreed!
Sony NW-HD5 and a spare battery (if you really need one) all the way !!!
NW-HD5 and 2 batteries (these are really easy to change), each running 30/40 hours equals at least 3 hours of music a day for 10 days or 1 1/2 hours for 20 days. Can't beat that.
I still think that overall this is the best no-frills, no video, no FM, no calendar, no sh*t (JUST MUSIC!!!) mp3 player around, because it sounds wonderful, it's really small and its battery lasts forever.
It is and feels sturdy enough to withstand some abuse, not like the girly "white player".
If you don't need to carry 20gb of music around get a flash player.
Good luck!

May sound obvious, but there's always goold ole CD/MP3 portables. A bit bulkier, but you get the best of both worlds, the batteries are standard sizes, and the power consumption is usually a lot better than you get with most DAPs.

I don't think australia had the sound hack problem, but i second the idea of a flash drive rather than MD, the iAudio U3 looks good or some of the sony flash drives are selling for cheap
