Making a Logitech PC Subwoofer sound better

Hi, first post in the subwoofer section!

On my pc i have a logitech 2.1 system. Its the Z2200 which as pc speakers go is fairly reasonable AFAIK. Its very powerful (Especially the sub) but obviously i want the most from it. Source is a creative soundblaster x-fi extreme music

Yesterday i filled the (Massive) port on the side which made a massive difference, much much tighter bass and a lot less boomy.

Was wondering if theres anything else i can do to make it sound even better? For example would some little spikes do anything?

Thanks
Ben

possibly sticking it on top of a stone/marble slab? might help even more, might not tho, best to try with a conrete slab first from the garden or something....heh....then if it sounds better go buy a nice pretty marble one so it looks good too...

Out of curiosity, what did you fill the port with? My sub is making a chuffing sound and was wondering if this could help reduce it!

Socks are good, no really. Hopefully an SVS owner will chip in and tell us what the port bungs are made of that are used for fine tuning.
Another option is; if you can find a cardboard tube (kitchen roll, toilet roll, cling film, whatever) that fits the port (may need to rewrap it in paper until it fits snugly) then by sliding it in and out (ooh err missus) you may be able to retune the port to a sound you like. Ideally of course you'd prepare a dozen or so tubes of different lengths to try. I was using some loudpanels a while back and their passive subs were not up to my main sub so I inserted kitchen roll tubes stuffed with socks into the ports all the way to the back of the box which effectively acted as a low frequency cut off filter

The stone/marble could be an idea but i'm moving house early jan and it'll be going in a room with fairly nice carpet. Not sure that having a big heavy stone on nice thick carpet would do the carpet much good?

I filled my port with thermal gloves. Its a nice tight fit but as its winter i might need them back soon! They work well, might fill it with some old socks when i've got some spare. Thing is the port on this sub is massive! I've got very big hands and i can fit my whole hand in the port!

Try a toilet roll with the paper still on it. You'll still get some bass coming through the tube but it might tame it. Of course this is a complete lottery as to whether it sounds better because one hopes Logitech spent some time and effort designing it correctly in the first place. One other thought, getting it away from a wall and especially a corner will greatly reduce it's bass output and you may be able to get your gloves back that way

I tried the same with my Z-2200 set and it killed the sound. It dropped a little lower but there was nowhere near the same punch. The biggest improvement I found was when I moved the sub from under my desk to next to it; I managed to get rid of all the boom and lost little impact.

Oops, Sunil and I posted at exactly the same time so I assume he is replying to your post and not mine. Sounds like sub placement may be all important here.

Mines under the desk and next to a sort of wheelie storage unit. So its sort of in a corner, side ported so the wall behind it doesnt matter

Sunil, i'm using the Z2200 too but blocking the port made it much tighter, quieter but i had it turned down to start with. The little bass level knob was at minimum and it was still overpowering sometimes so with it bunged its at default setting

I personally found having the sub under the desk caused boom and sucked the midrange out which was caused by the desk acting like another box around the sub. I would advise moving yours if possible. I now have mine next to the desk with the bass set at half way. It sounds balanced and the midrange is not muddy as it once was. HTH
