Maybe Sony have gone downhill recently.

A few years ago, my rear projection TV developed a fault 6 months past the warranty date. A quick call to Sony Customer Care and they arranged for it to be picked up, repaired and returned, all free of charge. I really couldn't have asked for more.

Sorry to hear of your problems though.

I sent my hd-5 back cos it had crashed and died. The person I spoke to did his best to convince me not to send it but I sent it anyway cos a dead unit is no good to anyone (especially a 6 month old dead unit). It had also developed the cracks on the buttons (after about 2 weeks use) which I mentioned in the cover letter and they proceeded to ignore.

So overall, although I got the unti back in less than 4 weeks they did the minimum work required to bring it back to a working state. I must also say that although I live in the anti i-pod world, the build quality of the hd-5 compared to the i-pod is very poor. You only have to hold an i-pod to notice. Even with you eyes closed

saying that i am a happy bunny cos i got my player back before xmas and I didn't think I would get it back till the new year.

Something is up at Sony, and it's not good. This forum alone is becoming a testament to the firm's poor service and less than satisfactory products and software. Which is a shame - they used to be so damned reliable ...

I think everyone has taken stupid pills at sony Towers. The European versions of their new LCD BRAVIA TVs have a ton of good features cut out, including ones that wouldn't have cost them anything to include, seemingly for no reason at all.

That said, at least Sony UK replaced the cracked buttons on the HD5s, which is more that can be said for Sony of America.

Nothing to do with DAPs, but I sent my Sony VAIO laptop for repair recently. The status on the web page showed "your laptop is being repaired at this very moment" for over a month and my queries for updates on status via their web page went unanswered.

Eventually I sent them a fax saying how disgruntled I was and the very next moment my laptop was miraculously fixed.

I doubt I'll be buying Sony again....

Perhaps a relative of someone senior at Sony gave them a copy of that old board game, 'Go For Broke!'

I've experienced another aspect of Sony's bad customer service - replacement parts at inflated prices.

One part I tried to buy off them would have cost me twenty times it's value. £100 for a battery recharger? I think I'll shop else where in future.

"Today i did call but THEM AGAIN & they confused me further ..After telling them the "Log Information" they told me that you told us to cancel the job.How funny I never told them & Why should I say them to cancel the Job since it is still under warranty .They think customer is stupid..I waited for few minutes then I again called them Now they told me that new Job has been made on 23rd so write this "Log Information".So I told them what about replacement ..So the Lady the told me that they will call me at 4:30pm IST.How

But atleast now i know who is handling My Job.Also whenever I Called them on their Number Different person has different information.Quite Amazing ."
