A question for the i-pod experts

Hey,

I have an ipod query that needs answering. I have scratched my head but cannot work this out.

OK, so I have 99% music on my machine, one audio book. OK?

When I use random shuffle I sometimes get Steven Fry reading Harry Potter which doesnt work as just want music randomly. Prefer listening to the book as and when.

Anyway, can I sort it that the audio book is not played within the random shuffle.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks,

Pete

try creating a new smart playlist in itunes, called 'songs only'

for parameters, try something like 'kind contains the words audio file' or something to that effect eg: get it to filter out the files that are in 'audible' format or whatever it is.

Alternatively, put the word 'audiobook' in the composer space under song info, then you are creating your smart playlist, put in 'composer' does not contain 'audiobook'.

You will then have a playlist with all your music only.

Be sure though to click on the song title bar on the playlist to sort in to alphabetical order, prior to synching ipod...songs easier to find!

merry xmas

The latest iTunes allows you to omit an audio book from beng played when shuffling songs either in iTunes or on the iPod itself.

By the way which version of the iPod are you using, I'm not sure if it works on all versions of the iPod. It certainly works on the Nano and 5G.

Also where did you get the audio book from, if it came from Audible or ITMS then it should have this feature enabled.

Hope this helps, David

Select your audio book in iTunes. Right click on it, and select Get Info from the drop down menu. The select options tab and insure that the bottom box is checked "Skip when shuffling"

Hope this helps, David

Great thanks. Done that. One final question, do I have to do that on every chapter or just the first one?

Ta.

Yes on every audiobook file, although would it not be easier to only have one or two audiobook files on your pod?. You don't have an mp3 for each and every chapter do you?, because you know that there are freeware programs (such as mp3 merge0 that will stitch all those file together to make it more manageable.

im pretty sure that on the new itunes you can right click and go to get info and then there is a check box next to an option called "skip when shuffling" or something like that. this works for anything i think...i have religious verses skipped, cuz id rather not have them come on after a modest mouse song discussing why he thinks god sucks...lol
