Tom Tom One Installation question...

Bought one of these today - omg it is brilliant and so fast at calculating routes. So, I have installed it on the right hand bottom corner of my windscreen and have kind of hidden the charger cable around the top and and down the side of the steering cowl and plug into the lighter socket. It still means there is a bit of cable showing and of course can't use my Ipod roadtrip which also requires the lighter socket.

If I got a plug and cable from Maplins, does anyone know where I could connect the cable up to with out pulling the car apart? Its a 2002 bmw 325 convertible.

Yes you could do as you suggested no problem. You can buy a cigarette adaptor that will accept 2 lighter plugs (I have seen them as big as four inputs) from Halfords or other car accessory shops.

what put me off with this is that the screen size seems small compared with my ipaq 2210 and tom tom 3, is it quite a good size in the flesh

It's a 3.5" QVGA screen, same as your iPaq but in landscape orientation.

I thought that in the shop it looked small but now its actually in the car I think that if it was any bigger it would be overkill. I think it is great, especially in night time mode and when you turn off the maps in preference for directional arrows.
Anyway, back to my question, does anyone know where I can wire into the electrics (like the courtesy light in the footwell) instead of using the cigarette lighter?

BTW i found a mains adapter kicking about the house from a Panasonic personal CD player which is 4.5 volts and it charges the Tom Tom just fine. Was too scared to use my Nokia phone charger as that says 5.7 volts ie 0.7 volts more than it says on the Tom.

Just thought of something else, if my mains charger is only about 5v surely the cigarette lighter is 12v. Don't think there is a resister inline?

The car charger adaptor supplied with the Tom Tom One has a 5V regulator built in.
