There are various (DSG retail) codes around which will bring the price down to £208, use one of the cash back credit cards and the price falls to £198. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You don't have to order online but it maybe advisable to do so, I just walked in & bought mine, but I did phone first to check their stock levels as they are selling like hot cakes at this price, when I checked by phone they had 44 in stock in Reading, when I got there 20 minutes later they only had 40 left, many retailers are still advertising them at £279

car phone have them up at £222 (down from £249) so £198 is a good price

No probs!

Perhaps you could post some of the codes.

I used my PCWorld cc to obtain a further 5% off anyway, total price = £208 so paid only £10 more (trying to make myself feel a bit better  )

I guess that's the danger of trying to be helpful...

I phoned PC World on Friday but they were quoting 'the normal price' so I ordered from the Link at £219 delivered. Father-in-law will love it.

Hi Stu!

What you had to do is order it on-line and select the collect in store bit when you go through to the check out. You have the best of both worlds, pay internet price and can collect in store after about 1h.

I got one from Argos at £223 - I'd rather spend an extra £4 than buy from DSG Retail.

A handy tip - go to pocketgpsworld.com (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/) - you can download the speed camera POI's for free !

Be quick - it'll be £2 per download next year !

Looking today and the best price is 259 QUID! It seems that great offer has ended and they will 'throw in' a free bag/case for it.

ANyone know where I can get the tomtom 1 for under 220?

First off, it has a much better GPS chipset (Sirf Star III I believe), which is much more sensitive and will work much better if you have a car with a reflective or heated windscreen, or between very tall buildings. I can even pick up 3 or 4 satellites in my dining room!

I think you will be lucky to find one for £219 ,it seems the sales aren't as cheap as they make out as you could get one cheaper before Christmas.
I will be getting one of these when i pay my creditcard bill off:god: .
I would also like to hear from TUT as the reviews i have read favour the tomtom one over the 300.

The Tom Tom One is a smaller unit which is maybe better suited to use on foot. It also has a faster processor than the Tom Tom 300. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the 300 dropped, because the Tom Tom One does everything that the 300 does.

Bought a Tom Tom One today from PC World for £259 including the carry case worth £50. Well normally costs £50. Whether its worth £50 might be debateable but given other comments about removing the unit to avoid theft, I would have bought a case anyway. Must agree with other contributors that the set up was a doddle. Easier than a DVD recorder! I've saved the map to my Mac also dead simple. So I'm waiting to go somewhere I have never been to before to check it out!

The carrycase seems to carry one hell of a PCWorld markup, as the price on the TomTom website is only 24.95 EUROS which equates to around £17 :(

Bought one today from Comet for £249.99. Had a load of Comet vouchers to spend which is why I didn't get it elsewhere. Very pleased with it. It is loads thinner than the 300 which makes it so easy to put in your pocket when you go out of the car.

Got the Tom Tom One for surprise xmas present and in total agreement, it's superb. I would have picked that one myself if it had been my money.

5 minute setup, really quick processing and small enough to fit in your jacket pocket.

Really impressed by the way it re-calculates your journey as you drive if you take a small detour due to local knowledge.

Plus, safety camera download is a licence saver!

Hello every 1.

Is the tom tom 1 better than the go 500 and the 700

FLINTOFF
30-12-2005, 5:33 PM
Or should i say as good as them

thxultra
30-12-2005, 6:08 PM
The main advantages of the tomtom 500/700 is the hands free calling and they come with european maps aswell as uk ones.

The tomtom one has the advantage of having the SiRFStarIII chipset which is alot better than the one in the 500/700.It also has a better screen which is easier to see in direct sunlight and alot brighter than 500/700.

The one is also easier to hold in the hand as it's flat compared to the rounded back of the other two.

I borrowed a TT300 and wasnt impressed with it as it tried to send me down a cul de sac to get back onto a main road after i missed a turn, twice! Is the mapping any better on the TT one, has anybody come accross similar problems to this, or is it just me?

The mapping on the one is a slightly newer version with it being a new product but guess it would probably give you the same route.

Tomtom dont have any control of the maps as they get them from a company called tele-atlas if i remember correctly.

IanS
31-12-2005, 6:30 AM
Correct - the navigation can only be as good as the mapping data that tele-atlas supply. And as with most maps, it is always going to lag behind reality somewhat. What must set apart various GPS devices is the speed at which they calculate a route, and the speed at which they can recalculate after you have ignored an instruction (which the ONE accomplishes very quickly indeed).

Yes, just remember to take a backup beforehand though. You might have to delete an unused voice though in order to create sufficient temporary upgrade space (according to the upgrade instructions), however I didn't need to do that - it might have been because I was already on 5.410 though.

I find its best to copy the original sd card onto another card and use this for any changes you do.

It's best to get one a little bigger than the original for all the extras you can add.

If it all goes wrong at least you've not wasted the original card.

I have backed the ONE's settings to my laptop using the supplied CD to a file in My Docs, to use a new, larger, blank SD card do I put that into the ONE and use the restore option from the CD, or do I have to copy the file from the laptop? I haven't got a card reader attatched yet.
Sorry to ask somewhat silly questions but I don't want to delete the wrong stuff!

Ged,

Not sure how you do it using the supplied cd as i always use a card reader but i would guess that you would copy the file from your laptop to the new sd card that would be in your tomtom.

had a look on the site and it should reload from the My Docs folder, we will see!
It is quite an easy to use from the box product but I am wondering how easily the POI will download, does anyone offer map updates or is that a Tomtom only thing? For example, intwo years or so will we all need to buy new maps or pay for an update?
Still, chuffed, great toy.

Hey Nick,

I've joined www.pocketgpsworld.com, but I'm confused on how to upload the safety cameras, any chance of doing a 'walkthrough' including a link for the TT1

Thanks
