How to set FR mode when dubbing with Panny EH50 ?

Panny manual talks of FR Flexible record as ‘You can set FR mode when transferring (dubbing) or programming timer recordings.

I have a Bond film in SP mode on the HDD of 2hrs 27mins and wish to get it onto DVD-R, I cannot fathom out how to do this, any help appreciated.

I managed to set it to start and end times before a live prog started.

If I am recording a film off VHS where I know the approx length (+- a few mins), I can go FUNCTIONS>OTHERS>FLEX REC>set hrs and mins (i.e duration of movie) and select START and press ENTER and it then calculates the quality to cram it onto a DVD-R and recording starts.

However, with DUBBING I select HDD drive, go FUNCTIONS>DUBBING and choose HDD-DVD route, HighSpeed dub, select the TITLE and the next step is DUBBING and it starts,

….so with dubbing where do I get to tell it that the Title recorded in SP mode being dubbed is 2hrs 27 mins and I need it to alter that SP mode to FR mode to fit the DVD_R disc ?

As you are changing the recording from SP to something else you can't do it using high speed dubbing. You need to re-encode at the lower bit rate to fit it on the disc.
Select normal speed dubbbing and then you should be able to change the quality. See page 45 of the manual.

In the second one down (Dubbing Mode) don't select High Speed - go across and you can change the Recording Mode to FR (aswell as the other modes).

Hi and thanks for the advice, sounds easy then and a load off my mind, shall give it a try. Manuals sometimes dont make thing obvious.
