Gap between tracks

Hi, I'm new to the whole iPod thing so apologies if this has been asked before (I'm sure it must have).

I have a 4GB Nano, and 2 questions............

Is is possible to completely remove gaps between tracks?
I've set the fade out to 0 seconds in iTunes as per the instructions on the Apple site, but there is still a small pause of half a second between tracks. Obviously this is only really noticeable on live recordings and albums which flow as one :-
Dark Side of the Moon, Frances the Mute etc.

Also, what is the average usage per charge I can expect in hours?
Using it for 20 minutes at a (time in the car) via a cheap cassette adaptor (£8) I'm getting about 6-7 hours per charge. This is with the volume set to 75%.

Is the cassette adaptor drawing too much juice? and would the rather more expensive Apple one be more sensitive and require less power? (prolonging battery life)

Cheers

Hi huwg,

AFAIK, the only way to have gapless mp3's on an iPod is to rip the tracks as one big mp3, however I believe this can cause shorten battery life as the size of the mp3 makes the iPod use more juice.

Here is some info about mp3 gaps.

That doesn't apply on a nano as it doesn't use a hard drive, it uses flash memory. The reason more battery life is used when using massive files is because the players has to refill it's song 'cache' more often, this means it has to spin the hard disk more often, using more battery, this doesn't apply to flash memory as there is no hard disk to spin so there should be no additional battery usage for large files.

You could try this solution.

Place the Nano and all its accessories back into its box and proceed to your car along with the orginal receipt.

Drive to the place of purchace

Request a refund

Buy a Sony A1000

Result? Gapless playback and extended battery life plus the bonus of bigger storage

Not ideal but the only real solution lol

what a nice and helpful suggestion, but I didn't buy the Nano, it was a free gift from work
the best £170 I've never spent
